Verdant Session October 2025 for Electronic Convergence

For October I was thrilled to host some wonderful pals and leading living legends from the thriving dub techno community.   Bjarnar Jonsson [Ohm] has a long and respected history with the genre and now channels his developed taste into his Ohm Series vinyl and digital labels.    He's often collaborating with guest number 2... Johnny Fredsgaard [Kvadrant] whose Kontakt project is now approaching 50 releases with many of those featuring Ohm & Kvadrant productions.    In recent times Kontakt has hosted a who’s who of the Dub Techno landscape … Mike Schommer, Rod Modell,  Shed,  Steve O'Sullivan, cv313,  Octal Industries,  Resoe but also some brilliant and inventive remix projects from Bjorn Torske,  Lawrence and Joey Anderson to name a few.  Last but not least, Alex Lenta completed our quartet. He also produces music and designs artwork for the Ohm Series label.

For this set together we naturally locked into some delicious dub techno beats playing recent releases, previewed forthcoming releases on Ohm Series,  Kontakt and works in progress by Lentza and Ulf & Ralf.   Saying that, its not all dub t and we dropped some other refined flavours into our selections  

In essence, its all unplanned and just the 4 of us enjoying a long mix together…dive in!

An relaxed and easy listening piece with heavy influence from oriental Asian and orchestral instruments

Distant Shores

Progresses through 8 distinct movements with a structure A-H.
The first half has a relaxing but dark tone, which had me picturing someone walking through the urban city streets late at night whilst most folk are sleeping, the surroundings are mostly still and quiet, but it is never silent, even with no one around and the roads are dimly lit by streetlights.
The second half begins to pick up the pace as it progresses and the streets start to show signs of life as the early birds begin to emerge and litter the streets with their presence as they make their way to work.

This piece uses electric guitar recordings as a base to work from within each movement and then builds on this with various orchestral instruments including: Violin, Cello, Piano, Una Corda, Sax, Brass Section and others.

Verdant Session - November 2025 

Recorded live last week, an extended session (3 hours plus)  of atmospheric, moody techno.  Ambient overtures to mid tempo deepend dubs into some breaks, acid techno and reaching the cosmos with drum and bass to finish.

Electronic Convergence - Verdant Session - November 2025

Time

A soundtrack style piece with a slow Drum and Bass feel.
The composition started with the drum track and building up the undertone layers from 3 hang/pan drums, a solo cello and bass guitar, then creating the melody parts using a Clarinet, Ney, Bansuri and Tin Whistle.
As the dynamics and pacing increase during the second half, a string and wind ensemble are brought in for the melodic progression, as well as a Tingklik and the Claire Avant Piano, with some additional sfx created using the NI Skanner XT plugin.

Wind Talkers (Pt. 1)

Part 2 to Wind Talkers, built from a section that did not fit but could instead be its own stand alone piece.
It is built on the same framework, using the same A-B-C-D structure, key and tempo and also the drums, percussion and core instruments remain the same, whilst encompassing a much more upbeat and carefree mood compared to the former.

This piece also uses Hang/Pan drums to create the base undertones, a simple but energetic bassline that sets the mood and then features a large collection of wind instruments that provide the melodies, drones and sound effects throughout.

The wind instruments used in this piece include:
Clarinet, Ney, Bansuri, Shakuhachi, Dizi, Daegum, Flute, Balinese Flute and Bassoon.


Sky Walkers (pt. 2)

idyll Mind is artist moniker of Josh Gough, producing music in various genre’s from Trip-Hop, Rock, Electronic, Various styles of dance and Film/Game score’s.

Currently using Reason Studio 12 music software to produce the music with a combination of self recorded instruments, Kontakt sampled instruments and software synthesisers.

Originally learning to play guitar from the age of 14 with a preference  for rock and metal music that lead to taking up music technology and film studies during college, then further study in music technology at university that saw a development in musical tastes into most genres of music and scores whilst also taking up various other instruments including the bass guitar, drums and percussion, keyboards and various others.

Rosario Marcianò (Native Sound), in addition to being an author of essays, a documentary filmmaker and an independent investigator, especially expert in the field of clandestine geoengineering and geopolitics, is also a musical composer. Self-taught, since adolescence he has cultivated, among other things, a passion for art whose inspiring goddess is Euterpe. This passion, over time, has given rise to a style and inspiration transfused into instrumental productions of considerable emotional impact. 

His compositions, which tend to go beyond the boundaries of more or less codified genres or subgenres, tend to combine a tense, sometimes hammering sense of rhythm with melodic lines not devoid of a refined dissonance. Generally speaking, these creations can be traced back to the field of soundtracks accompanying dramatic films, thrillers, action films.

It is symptomatic that the motifs created are exclusively instrumental, we would say orchestral, so as to focus the enjoyment on the essence inherent to the art of sounds, without the intervention of the text which, although it can enrich the score, sometimes distracts from the heart of the inspiration. However, the titles, almost always coinciding with a single word or a syntagm of strong texture, introduce the forms and functions of verbal language to recover, so to speak, the eclipse of words.

The tracks are precisely fixed by incisive and pregnant titles, not only in relation to the phonic and melodic structure, but also foreshadowing abysmal themes: life, death, destiny, freedom, hope, nature, love, memory, meaning, power... They are the same contents that dot the section dedicated to the maxims: for this reason it seemed appropriate, indeed natural to us to match some pieces with precise aphorisms, as a harmonic complement. A music therefore to listen to, but also to read with a multisensory approach that involves soul and intellect, aesthetic pleasure and reflection.
