TLDR; Lots of boards that provide ratings say 1.5A @ 36V, but most solderless breadboards do not provide a rating. 1A @ 5V (or any 5W current/voltage combination up to 36V) is conservatively low by comparison, but will probably be safe on any random board for long periods of time.


The most important data point when it comes to batteries was there: the battery type. As a rule, a larger capacity of the battery leads to a higher current delivering ability, and the capacity was given as well. Batteries come in a number of common sizes, type + capacity give this, but this is less important for current delivery ability.
After that of course the actual peak comes down to manufacturer, terminal connections, and other minor details. This is becoming quite irrelevant as the moment you're trying to use batteries at (nearly) their peak current you're probably doing something wrong. That button cell LED trick... well, that's just convenient 
So for this case: "a 6V NiMH 2000 mAh pack" is more than enough info to be able to say "that will happily run 4-5 microservos" (note how the current requirement of those was also not specified). The expected 2-3A total stall current for those servos, which will normally run at lower current, should be no problem for such a battery type. There are also numerous different solderless breadboards out there, but as a rule of thumb putting more than 500 mA through those rails is not a good thing to do.


For those new to electronics and circuits, breadboards are often the best place to start. That is the real beauty of breadboards--they can house both the simplest circuit as well as very complex circuits. As you'll see later in this tutorial, if your circuit outgrows its current breadboard, others can be be attached to accommodate circuits of all sizes and complexities.


You may have noticed that many breadboards have 
numbers
 and 
letters
 marked on various rows and columns. These don't serve any purpose other than to help guide you when building your circuit. Circuits can get complicated quickly, and all it takes is one misplaced leg of a component to make the entire circuit malfunction or not work at all. If you know the row number of the connection you are trying to make, it makes it much simpler to plug a wire into that number rather than eyeballing it.





How about building an astable multivibrator that will flash a couple of 
bright LEDs?
 It's a very simple circuit that only requires a few components. Let me show you how to build a simple light flasher using my circuit. We can build it on a 
solderless breadboard
 to save time and keep things nice and clean. When it's finished you will be able to experiment with it yourself to change the rate of flashing and the brightness of the LEDs etc.


The trick to keeping the fun in electronics if there is one is this: Learn what you need when you need it. It's as simple as that and you will find that the majority of what you realy need to know is pretty simple.


You do not have to go to engineering school to learn circuit building. In fact, many ee programs do not include practical circuit building-- all lab work happens on breadboards or in computer simulations. The best way to learn these skills is to get some electronics kits and put them together. If you are a guitar or bass player, an excellent sources for interesting kits is Build Your Own Clone, a company that specializes in classic and cutting edge stop boxes and effects. Their web site is a cornucopia of information-- especially see the "confidence booster" kit-- it doesn't do much (it's a simple volume control) but the instructions are a complete lesson in soldering and parts handling. Another excellent site is Adafruit, which has a section called "learn' with guides to simple and complex projects
