'Becoming Shai' is a collaborative creative endeavor taken on with love and care by Southside Shai and Gory Kas. This recording captures Shai's performance at Gül Gallery in NYC for Queer Mubarak on June 20, 2025. 

The performance contains a mix of original songs and poetry mapping Shai's journey into becoming herself over several years of personal troubles and tragedies (note: several songs may contain explicit language).

I wrote “The Streets Remember Us” to tell a story of movement, defiance, and the power of presence. It’s about the moments when we take up space, when our bodies, our desire, and our fire refuse to be hidden. I imagined streets that remember every heartbeat, every act of courage, and every spark of rebellion, and I wanted the music to carry that energy.

The track unfolds like a journey—quiet, intimate moments that swell into surges of exhilaration, pulsing rhythms that echo both tension and liberation. It’s cinematic and visceral, designed to make you feel the streets, the people, and the fire in motion.

For me, this song is a celebration of resilience, connection, and freedom. It’s a reminder that the fire we carry can never be forgotten, and that together, we rise.

The Streets Remember Us

We sing this song by comrade Ahlay Blakely (often as an opener) to put people in the mindset of action and presence in the face of the oncoming [sic "ongoing"] wave of difficult changes we face as a fragile and beautiful species in need of redemption and redirection on a mistreated planet. If we are ready, we will survive into the dawning of a new era... so let's get ready, no? Can you feel it?

“Let’s Meet Kaali” is a raw, immersive journey into the heart of the divine feminine, exploring the paradoxical power of the goddess Kaali. Through spoken-word rhythms that pulse like a heartbeat in the void, the song delves into destruction as creation, chaos as clarity, and fear as liberation. The lyrics draw from her cosmic symbolism—time, transformation, and the void—inviting listeners to confront the shadows within and around them. Kaali emerges not as a distant deity, but as a visceral presence, fierce yet maternal, challenging the ego and illuminating hidden truths.

The song’s avant-garde structure mirrors the unpredictability of Kaali’s energy, weaving hyper-rhythms, fragmented imagery, and evolving metaphors. Listeners move through a landscape where life and death, silence and roar, collapse into one continuous experience. Black Logos is an Italian rock band formed in Cagliari, Sardinia, in 2023. Their music is a powerful mix of rock, stoner, metal, and grunge, with influences ranging from classic 70s rock to the heavy, distorted riffs of modern metal.

Yogi Prateado is a wandering wondering bodhisattva, minstrelling about town in search for harmony with nature for all beings. Prateado's source-ry is impulsive yet reserved, measured yet passionate, revealing an innate love for odd rhythms and collaboration with visionary electronic artists. Prateado dispenses the mathematics of the spheres through stepping back and letting breath create.

Anbid Zaman is a queer activist and artist whose work rises from a life marked by displacement, resistance, and the insistence on living fully even when the world tries to deny that possibility. Born in Bangladesh and shaped by grassroots queer organizing from a young age, they grew into their voice through community struggle — learning early that courage isn’t an act, but a daily discipline.

Their journey from danger to refuge transformed them without erasing their origins. Living in Germany, Anbid continues to work at the intersections of identity, migration, and liberation, supporting queer people who face violence and navigating the complexities of chosen family, safety, and belonging. Their activism is guided by deep commitments: justice without compromise, solidarity across borders, and an unshakeable belief that marginalised voices should be heard not with pity, but with respect.

These values spill directly into their music. Anbid’s sound blends testimonial storytelling, emotional minimalism, and atmospheric layers shaped by memory — the quiet of hiding, the noise of protest, the ache of leaving, the thrill of surviving. Each track carries the weight of lived experience and the brightness of hope that refuses to die. Their art is not just expression; it is continuation, resistance, and a reminder that stories carry power long before the world acknowledges them.
