Hur lång tid tar det för ett nätverkspaket att färdas över nätverket? Varför uppstår fördröjningar när vi surfar på nätet, och hur kan vi mäta dessa fördröjningar? Det är några av de frågor vi tar upp i detta avsnitt av Forskningspodden. Med oss i studion har vi doktoranden Simon Sundberg, som har skrivit licentiatuppsatsen Towards Ubiquitous and Continuous Network Latency Monitoring.

Simon har utvecklat en ny lösning för att förbättra övervakningen av nätverksfördröjningar, vilket gör det möjligt att snabbare och mer exakt förstå hur latens påverkar vår internetupplevelse. Genom att få en tydligare bild av hur latensen fördelas i nätverken och hur nya teknologier påverkar hastigheten, öppnar hans forskning upp för nya sätt att optimera nätverksprestanda. Han berättar också varför Wi-Fi ofta är en stor källa till fördröjningar, och hur det kan påverka allt från webbsurfing till strömning och spel. Och som tur är, delar han med sig av konkreta tips på hur vi kan förbättra vår egen upplevelse!
