Welcome to Madinah Arabic voice podcast

In today’s podcast, you’re going to listen to a Modern Standard Arabic short story 

Our today’s story is entitled “Guha and glutton man”. It deals with the famous folkloric Egyptian funny character named “Guha”

 narrated in MSA by Ahmed Godamy and translated and narrated in English by Om Ahmad.

Now to the story

جحا والرجل الأكول

today's story is entitled Goha and the glutton Man

في يوم من الأيام

One day

طرق رجل بدين جدا باب جحا

A very fat man knocked Goha`s door

فتح جحا الباب

Goha opened the door

فوجد أمامه رجلا شديد البدانة

And found a very obese man

فسأله

He asked him 

من أنت؟

Who are you 

وماذا تريد؟

And what do you want

قال الرجل:

The man said

أنا قادم من بلدة بعيدة

I came from a far country

وتوقفت هنا لأستريح من عناء السفر

And stopped here to take rest from travelling bother

رحب جحا بالرجل

Goha welcomed the man

وأدخله داره

And  took him home

ولما حان وقت الغداء

At lunch time

استأذنه جحا حتى يعد له الطعام

Goha asked permission to make the food for him

أحضر جحا الخبز أولا

Goha brought the bread first

ووضعه فوق المائدة

And put it on the dining table

وذهب ليحضر الطعام

Then he went to bring the food

وإذا بالضيف البدين

The obese visitor

يلتهم الخبز كله

Devoured all the bread

عاد جحا يحمل أطباقا مملوءة بالخضر المطهي

Goha came back with dishes full of cooked vegetables

ولكنه نظر إلى المائدة

But when he looked to the table

فلم يجد الخبز

He didn’t find the bread

عاد جحا ليأتي بخبز آخر

Goha went to bring another bread

وإذا بالضيف يلتهم كل ما في الأطباق من طعام

Soon, the visitor devoured all the food in the dishes

ولم يترك بها شيئا

And he left nothing

أحضر جحا الخبز ونظر إلى الأطباق

Goha brought the bread and he looked to the dishes

فلم يجد بها شيئا

But he found nothing

أخذ جحا الأطباق الفارغة ليملأها طعامًا وترك الخبز على المائدة

Goha took the empty dishes to fill it with food and he left the bread on the table

وعاد فلم يجد أثرًا للخبز

When he came back he didn’t find the bread

وهكذا استمر الحال عدة مرات

And this continued to happen many times
حتى نفد الطعام والخبز في البيت
The food and the bread in the house finished
سأل جحا الضيف قائلا
Goha asked the visitor
إلى أين تقصد يا سيدي في رحلتك هذه؟
Oh sir! What`s your destination?
أجاب الضيف
The visitor answered
أني أعاني من ضعف في قابليتي للطعام
I`m suffering from weak appetite for food
وقد سمعت عن طبيب ماهر في هذه المدينة
And I heard about a clever doctor in this city
وسأذهب إليه ليعالجني من هذا المرض اللعين
And I`m going to him to recover from this damn illness
حتى يفتح شهيتي للطعام
So, I have good appetite for food
قال جحا
Goha said
يا لك من مسكين 
You are really poor
حقًّا إن لونك شاحب وبدنك هزيل
Indeed you are pale and thin
ولابد من العلاج 
The medicine is a must
قال الضيف
The visitor said
وبعد ذلك سأعود إن شاء الله وامكث هنا عندك شهرًا 
After that I will come back and stay a month with you here
لأستفيد من هواء بلدتكم 
So I benefit the air in your town
قال جحا
Goha said
أني آسف جدًّا
I`m so sorry

Our today’s story is entitled “Juha and the lazy son”. It tells about an Egyptian funny character called “Juha” and what did he do with his lazy son
Now to the story
جحا والابن الكسول
Juha and the lazy son
ذات يوم وصل بريد إلى بيت جحا
One day a mail arrived to Juha’s home
فتح جحا الخطاب
Juha opened the letter
فوجده من مدرسة ابنه
And he found it was from the school of his son
مدير المدرسة يطلب حضوركم بشكل عاجل
The school manager requires your presence urgently 
ذهب جحا في صباح اليوم التالي
Juha went in the next morning
ثم دخل إلى مدير المدرسة
Then he entered to school manager
قال له المدير: ابنك كسول جدا
Your son is too lazy “The manager said to him” 
لا يعمل الواجب المنزلي
He doesn’t do the homework
قال حجا
Juha said
حسنًا يا سيدي، سأحل هذه المشكلة 
Alright sir, I will solve this problem
أخذ جحا ينصح ابنه بعمل الواجب
Juha started to advise his son to do the homework
ولكن دون جدوى
but in vain
ما زال الابن كسولا
The son is still lazy
وما تزال المدرسة ترسل التحذير تلو التحذير
And the school still sends warning after warning
فبدأ يهدد جحا ابنه
Juha starts to threaten his son
ويخوفه من عاقبة فشله الدراسي
And make him fear from the consequences of scholastic failure 
ولا جدوى
but in vain
أخذ جحا يفكر
Juha started thinking
ثم نادى ابنه
Then he called his son
وقال له
He said to him
إن لم تفعل الواجب 
If you don’t do the homework
سآمر هذه العصا أن تضربك
I will order this stick to hit you
فلم يكترث الولد لكلامه
The boy doesn’t care to his words
فقال جحا
Juha said
أيتها العصا 
O stick
اضربي الولد الكسول
Hit the lazy boy
لأنه لا يريد عمل الواجب
Because he doesn’t want to do the homework
ولكن العصا ردت وقالت لا
The stick said no
ابتسم الولد فرحًا
The boy smiled joyfully
فقال جحا
Juha said
أيتها النار
O fire
احرقي العصا
Burn the stick
لأنها لا تريد أن تضرب الولد الكسول
Because it doesn’t want to hit the lazy boy
لأنه لا يريد عمل الواجب
As he doesn’t want to do the homework
فقالت النار: لا
The fire said no
فقال جحا: أيها الماء
Then Juha said: O water
أطفئ النار
Put the fire out
لأنها لا تريد أن تحرق العصا
As it doesn’t want to burn the stick
لأنها لا تريد أن تضرب الولد الكسول
Because it doesn’t want to hit the lazy boy
لأنه لا يريد عمل الواجب
As he doesn’t want to do the homework
فقال الماء: لا
The water said no
فقال جحا
And Juha said
أيتها البقرة
O cow
اشربي الماء كله
Drink all of the water
لأنه لا يريد إطفاء النار
Because it doesn’t want to put the fire out
لأنها لا تريد إحراق العصا
As it doesn’t want to burn the stick
لأنها لا تريد ضرب الولد الكسول
Because it doesn’t want to hit the lazy boy
لأنه لا يريد عمل الواجب
As he doesn’t want to do the homework
فقالت البقرة: لا
The cow said no
فقال جحا
Than Juha said
أيها الجزار
O butcher
اذبح البقرة
Come and slaughter the cow
لأنها لا تريد شرب الماء
As it doesn’t want to drink the water
لأنه لا يريد إطفاء النار
Because it doesn’t want to put the fire out
لأنها لا تريد إحراق العصا
As it doesn’t want to burn the stick
لأنها لا تريد ضرب الولد الكسول
Because it doesn’t want to hit the lazy boy
لأنه لا يريد عمل الواجب
As he doesn’t want to do the homework
فقال الجزار: لا
The butcher said no
فقال جحا
Then Juha said
أيها الحبل
O rope
اشنق الجزار 
Hang the butcher
لأنه لا يريد ذبح البقرة
Because he doesn’t want to slaughter the cow
لأنها لا تريد أن تشرب الماء
As it doesn’t want to drink the water
لأنه لا يريد أن يطفئ النار
Because it doesn’t want to put the fire out
لأنها لا تريد أن تحرق العصا
As it doesn’t want to burn the stick
لأنها لا تريد أن تضرب الولد الكسول
Because it doesn’t want to hit the lazy boy

As it doesn’t want to hang the butcher
