The new album by daltonists is a deliberate step into an organic, fully analog sound. Recorded entirely live in the studio and captured on tape. It’s a conscious decision that runs counter to much of today’s music production, which often prioritises perfection at the cost of authenticity. For daltonists, sound itself is central – raw, warm, imperfect, but deeply human.
The album’s title – Gradient – refers to the phenomenon of smooth, natural transitions between colours and tones. At its core lies a large-scale composition of the same name, split into two parts. It maps a stylistic journey: moving from the polyrhythmic pulse of afrobeat, through Todd Terje-style disco grooves, sliding into contemporary funk, and finally landing in the high-energy territory of Chicago juke.
Calling the record “Gradient” is intentionally provocative – after all, a gradient is not a colour. During live shows, the band has even received lectures from programmers and graphic designers, eager to explain the concept in detail. In mathematics, a gradient describes the direction and rate of the steepest change of a function:

The band admits they don’t fully understand it – but in their own way, they’ve recreated the phenomenon musically: organic transitions, shifts in energy and tone, not through equations, but through rhythm, sound, and emotion.

Nazwanie płyty „Gradient” jest lekką prowokacją – bo gradient w sensie technicznym nie jest kolorem. Po koncertach zdarzało się, że programiści i graficy udzielali zespołowi mini-wykładów, tłumacząc czym gradient jest naprawdę. W matematyce gradient opisuje kierunek i tempo największej zmiany funkcji:

daltonists otwarcie przyznają, że nie do końca to rozumieją – ale na własny sposób starali się odwzorować tę ideę w muzyce: płynne, organiczne przejścia, które zamiast surowej matematyki operują emocjami, barwami i dźwiękiem.

Most Least presents a second exciting glimpse from the forthcoming EP of new signings - daltonists.

‘california plum color’ radiates warmth and clarity, gradually opening into a hypnotic midsection where the pulse deepens and the energy shifts toward a more trance-like momentum. This detour echoes the soulful intensity of Theo Parrish and the motoric drive of Detroit’s techno tradition, before dissolving back into the song’s playful and melodic flow. Synth flourishes nod to the atmospheric touch of St Germain’s ‘Tourist’ era work, wrapping the piece in subtle electronic color.

The track finds the Polish trio weaving a luminous, piano-led melody that feels at once playful and sophisticated – recalling the breezy elegance of 70’s jazz-funk as well as the laid-back inventiveness of contemporary groups like BADBADNOTGOOD.

As with all of daltonists’ work, the piece reflects their fascination with perception, imperfection, and the evocative power of sound. Bridging jazz improvisation, club sensibilities, and cinematic textures, ‘california plum color’ is a vivid continuation of their sonic journey – one that turns limitation into a spectrum of possibilities.

Catching the attention of Most Least with their debut EP they have quickly become a staple of the live stages in Eastern Europe and have built an impressive organic following from their kinetic live shows and intriguingly original studio releases.

Eclectic, playful, and kinetic, it’s an expansive piece that delicately dances along the line separating broad appeal and underground tendencies that will leave listeners humming the lead melody long after the music has stopped.

Most Least is proud to present new signings daltonists and the first single from their forthcoming EP - ‘summer end color’.
The Polish leftfield trio formed in 2021, consisting of Roman Wróblewski (synthesizers), Piotr “orz” Orzechowski (bass), and Jacek Rezner (drums).
Drawing inspiration from the metaphor of color blindness - a symbol of limitation and distorted perception - which has become the group’s core conceptual framework as well as a direct influence on their name. Their genre-blurring sound connects contemporary jazz, African rhythms, dub culture, and experimental club music.
Catching the attention of Most Least with their debut EP they have quickly become a staple of the live stages in Eastern Europe and have built an impressive organic following from their kinetic live shows and intriguingly original studio releases.
The track is a sonic reflection on the subtle shift at the edge of seasons – a portrait of fading light and muted colors. Staying true to their fascination with human imperfection and perceptual ambiguity, daltonists explore the emotional hues of transition: warmth dissolving into melancholy, rhythm slowing into contemplation.

Built around hypnotic grooves and rhythmic interplay, the track blends earthy drum textures, grooving bass licks, syncopated hip hop pulses, and ambient electronics. The result is a hazy, late-summer jam that moves between introspective jazz improvisation and club-oriented momentum.

There is a distinct soundtrack quality to their work with nods to the likes of David Axelrod, Roy Ayers, Mad Professor, and 70’s film scores present in this release. It’s an exciting glimpse into what this band is about and is sure to whet the appetite of music fans who prefer to traverse the musical roads less travelled…


Expanding on the track inspiration in their own words:
“Theoretically, there is only one moment of change and breakdown in the weather after a sunny summer. Unfortunately, not here in northern Poland... Most of July is rainy, and August can be cold. The color of the end of summer is the color of a difficult time in which we can get stuck looking at the weather. It occurs several dozen times a year. Everyone in Poland complains about the weather. It is a bond that unites us, and frustration turns into life-giving creative energy.”
