Karlage vs Adrian Gemini - Winter Wonderland Closing Set

Grace (Dominique Atkins) and producers Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne, what else can be born from this combination but hits after hits. In my personal favorites, Grace was indeed one of the best early trance singers, along with Jan Johnston and Maria Nayler.

It was great to see Grace performing live somewhere in the mid-1990s on the Big Bang cruise from Helsinki to Stockholm. Can't find any hard facts about this event on the internet, but I'm pretty sure I was there!

From renowned NZ events AUM NYE, London Hardhouse Reunion, Fevah/Fahrenheit, Meltdown and countless more, to high-octane performances abroad for the likes of Xstatic (Ibiza), Twist, Redliners (London), Bounce Factory, Shine (Birmingham), Rehab (Rarotonga), Beatwave, Melbourne HH Collective, Amped (Australia) and finally, both Encoded and Filthface at Unity in The Sun (Greece).

Karl Schmidt aka Karlage began his DJing career back in the year 2000 when, after quite a few years frequenting the notoriously popular Hard House; Trance and Drum n Bass clubs of the mid to late 90's, he knew that the one thing greater than digging holes on a dance-floor was to be rocking it from behind the decks.

Along with a few friends, he then bought a pair of turntables, got to learning the basics and basically spent every cent he earned on vinyl-shopping.

A very enjoyable 5 years of DJing in and around London then ensued from 2001 - 2006 which led to him playing in some of the biggest and best clubs in the U.K. gaining masses of experience along the way. These parties and venues include U4ria, Frantic, Renaissance, The Fridge, Brixton Academy, 414, The Koz, The Soundshaft, Heaven, Wildchild, Koko (Camden Palace at the time), SE1, Byte, Velocity, Turbulence, Heat – playing a range of Techno, House, Trance and Hard House/Crossover (Hard Techno).

Jedes Set ist anders, innovative und mit 4 Decks live gemixt. Egal ob vor 200 oder 25´000 Tanzwütige, er hat den Dancefloor im Griff. Sein Sound ist unverwechselbar und sehr intim. Seine Sets, begleitet von mitreißenden Rhythmen und Emotionen. Erzählen Geschichten und laden zu unvergesslichen musikalischen Reisen ein. Nach einer längeren künstlerischen Pause kehrt er an den „Plattentellern“ zurück. Er ist, so wie seine Musik, weiser und reifer geworden. 

Im Jahr 1988, mitten in Zürich, mit 16 Jahren veranstaltete und legte als DJ bereits bei seinen ersten „Underground Acid Warehouse Partys“. Als Veranstalter und als DJ gilt über die Grenzen Europas als einer der „God-Father“ Figuren der Rave & Techno Szene. In den 90er Jahren feierte er große internationale Erfolge als Headliner in vielen der bekanntesten Clubs und Raves dieser Zeit...um nur einige zu nennen; Schleyerhalle Stuttgart (Co Headliner mit Prodigy), Love Parade (DE), Mysteryland (NL), Coccorico (IT), Club UK (LDN,) Knowledge Club (SW1 London), Tunnel Club NYC (USA), Cherrymoon Club (BE), Universe The Tribal Gathering (DE), Gazometer (AU), Energy Festival (CH), Streeparade (CH), waren nur einige der vielen Stationen seiner großartigen DJ Karriere. Ok, so im from Southampton, and spin trance and techno from early 90s through to early 00s. I have been collecting vinyl for nearly 25 years, but only started mixing again recently. I have never considered using anything other than vinyl, until 2021.

My main influence is mark eg. Seeing and hearing him smash dreamscape 21 was immense. An entertainer, a madman, and a damn good set builder, be it trance or techno. Always sought him out at events such as skelter, dreamscape, and the one and only country club in Evershot.

During the 1990s i travelled the country going to events such Dreamscape, Helter Skelter, Hysteria, Devotion, Fusion, Tazzmania and Hardcore Heaven. The smaller events were always my faves. The Shire Horse in St Ives, Country Club, The Coven in Oxford and a little Club called Jollys  in Southampton. Listening to some of the biggest the scene has seen in its history. 

Old skool hardcore was my first love. Sterns, peace festival were tapes i used to collect. Around 93/94 i started hearing different sounds. They were of course, trance and techno. Dave Angel, trevor rockcliffe, colin dale, gayle san, mach one, warlock, colin favor,craig walsh. European sounds with UK and Anerican techno. Then the trance from europe, which had a different vibe. A euphoric sound which of course, went hand in hand with ecstacy. Hard sounds with uplifting breaks and undertones. Mark EG and M-Zones first ever set in the technodrome were massive points. DJs who were ahead of the game with the euro sound. Kenny Sharp and Vortex also pushing the more obscure stuff. How many unknown tunes are there to still be named from their sets???
