Pete Hegseth tries to justify why federal troops are in LA during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing by pushing falsehoods about both the situation on the ground, the state and local response and federal policies involving the deployment of troops. Meanwhile, National Guardsmen are sleeping on the floor in their uniforms because the hap-hazard nature of this whole operation. California's governor Gavin Newsom for his part says he's going to be suing the Trump administration over it's actions and points out that because of these deployments other important efforts like fire safety are being compromised. Donald Trump says that Greta Thunberg should take anger management classes after her peaceful humanitarian flotilla to Gaza was detained in international waters by the Israeli military. Russell Brand, who is looking more ridiculous with each passing day, mocks Greta and is seemingly upset that unlike him she actually acts based on her convictions. In the Fun Half, Chuck Todd talks to Steve Bannon, who is openly questioning whether Elon Musk ever should have had classified clearances that aren't even granted to weapons contractors like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Scott Galloway also gets in on the beat down on Musk, though he sort of misses the key point which is that Musk (or any individual for that matter) should hold that much power. Greta Thunberg has been released from Israeli detention, though two of her fellow activists from the flotilla, Thiago Avila and Rema Hassan have apparently been transferred to Israeli prisons where they are in solitary confinement. Greta tells reporters that the very least countries like hers can do now is advocate for an end to the genocide and to recognize Palestine as a state. We're glad she's safe, but Dave Portnoy certainly isn't. He joked about wanting to blow up her ship with a missile, though he's also gotten very touchy about jokes that target Jewish people, while he himself continues to make antisemitic jokes. Framing what they did as an experiment is a valuable perspective. They found themselves in a certain set of unpleasant societal conditions, and they turned to Nazism to solve their problems. It failed. Miserably and disastrously. That experiment is therefore a warning to the world: if you find yourselves in conditions that seem similar, do not go the way of the Nazis. In this New Discourses podcast series, host James Lindsay walks the listener through portions of Hitler's Mein Kampf to explain clearly what the basis for the Nazi Experiment was, so that we might understand it. In this first episode, he reads from Chapter 1 of Volume 2 of that wretched book to explain the Nazi racial worldview (weltanshauung), which built the state we know and rightly hate on deliberate, knowing "racialism" (racism).
