You exit the portal, your insides feeling tingly from being reformed near-instantly. You can barely open your eyes...Endless red sand is blowing all around you, but in the distance you see something: lights? You enter into a cramped, winding town filled with bizarre denizens milling around. Gnarled roots create natural attachments to the jagged buildings and even used to light the area with hanging lanterns. In the distance, a gigantic decrepit tree's roots sprawl out like outstretched hands. Nearby, a tall figure of a Lamp-Lighter - a benevolent being, but one in pain from being constantly on fire - is calmly lighting lanterns with his finger.

You learn from the Lamp-Lighter that every new root is a new world that has yet to be fully opened, so the lanterns are honoring the new souls that are yet to enter The Gnarled. 

Indeed, those who have lost their corporeal form are in prayer, awaiting their rebirth. When lightning strikes, that means a new portal has opened, and they will solemnly enter into a new life and forget their past life, uncertain that they will ever be a human again. 

Thankfully, you ARE a fully-formed soul, able to travel the portals freely, as you haven't actually died yet, at least not in this lifetime...but that makes you even more of an outsider to them.

This city is actually the meeting place of all portal-travelers, but they must abide by a strict code where no one is helped but no one is hindered in their path towards becoming an entire being, and travelers must not interfere.

Those who do not abide by these demands are punished severely, forced out into the outskirts of the city where red sand blinds and eventually destroys your mortal form. Those who have accumulated sin in their past lives are forcibly sent into even deeper, more torturous depths...

Update on my album: 42 mins of music is fully done + mixed pretty much perfectly, so far, just not posted yet, because I'm thinking now I need to work on the art and story more. Part 1 is a bit scratchy + bassy but you won't hear those issues in the final version, all mixing was redone.

No AI is used in my music, no AI will ever be used in my music. That also means I never use AI stem separation, AI mastering tools, or any other "little helpers" that producers use and try to act sneaky about it. No AI means NO AI. I cut my samples and loops in an old version of Audacity. All my art is drawn first and then traced using vectors in Inkscape.
