Vessa is a Naarm-born and based Chilean-Mauritian electronic artist whose sound marries the raw intensity of techno with the emotive depth of experimental soundscapes. Known for her sequenced experimentation, Vessa’s live hardware performances have captivated venues across Naarm, including standout appearances at Sonder Music and Arts Festival, 150bpm events: 150% live, CURE CLUB and Hardware Theory. Her music delves into themes of identity, technology, and emotion, creating an intimate yet expansive auditory experience.

Drawing inspiration from traditional techno frameworks, Vessa’s mixtapes and home recordings chronicle her journey through electronic experimentation, capturing fleeting moments and channeling emotional energy with precision. Her recent release, Separate on LAN Records, showcases her ability to blend dreamy vocals and shimmering synths with classic drum machine rhythms, all infused with an unexpected freshness that breathes new life into the genre. Vessa has also explored the intersection of sound and visual art through her audio-visual collaboration with Rubyanna Edwards for Baseline Narrative 2024.

In addition to her live performances, Vessa has brought her sound to the airwaves with radio appearances on Area 3000’s Hardware Road and a live set on Angel FM. Vessa’s cross-genre sound consistently pushes against the conventional, inviting listeners into a textured audio landscape where the analog meets the avant-garde. Her ability to blend dark and light elements with a modern electronic sensibility has made her a key figure in Naarm’s music scene, continuously redefining what club music can be.

Tilt Shift sits firmly left of center, a difficult-to-label square peg that unintentionally fails to fit a pigeonhole. Borrowing from the photography term, Tilt Shift refers to two different types of movement, a selective focus with a large depth of field used to control perception. This can be applied to our music policy, tilting the vertical axis resulting in a sharp area of focus without reducing the depth of field. The selective focus that can be achieved by both tilting and shifting movements, It's compelling because the effect is different from that which you may have become accustomed to. This movement is often used to avoid the convergence of parallel lines, or as we have come to think of it, it’s where the lines blur.

About The Mix:
“In planning this roughly 90-minute hardware set, I wanted to explore multiple styles, genres, and intensity levels, within the mid-tempo BPM range of approximately 107-111. I feel that this tempo is somewhat underappreciated and overlooked, and conveniently happens to set a perfect late Saturday afternoon atmosphere. My live set mostly revolves around the Elektron Analog Rytm, the process is taking a pre-arranged four-bar sketch created on the machine, and manipulating it in a combination of ways into a 4+ minute on-the-fly track. In this set, I’m also streaming more completed and released tracks via the Roland SP-404 MKII, and enjoying and expanding on some interplay between the two, the way a DJ might between two decks. Despite a few minor flaws and blunders (I happen to appreciate these to a degree in a live set), I’m overall quite happy with how the planning of this particular set came to fruition with the performance and couldn’t be more pleased to share. About our Guest:
Dreamy dance and/or chill music. Glo Phase is the solo project of professional composer and multi-instrumentalist, Joseph Rusnak. Although Glo Phase is a relatively new project, Rusnak has been producing, performing, and touring in multiple bands and projects since the early 2000s. Under Glo Phase he has released a steady stream of genre bending electronic music through labels 100% Silk, Constellation Tatsu, Stasis Recordings, Whiskey Pickle, Image Research, and Low Recordings, always emphasizing a balance between dreamy and dancey soundscapes. In addition to his releases, Rusnak regularly performs live sets with varieties of analog gear, spanning distinctive moods and colors.

About The Event:
The Listening Series Editions of Body Tools Sessions are dedicated to deep listening presented on vinyl or live and played for an intimate crowd on a set of vintage DCM Time Window 3 Hi-Fi Speakers in our cozy living room in Highland Park, Los Angeles. These events are powered by DCM Historian, who is dedicated to persevering the speakers of the now defunct DCM brand for generations to come. Their innovative Time Window & Time Frame speakers will be showcased in these pop up listening events in conjunction with the curation of Body Tools International. 

About the Show:
Body Tools Sessions is a live audio video broadcast that happens on the First Saturday of every month from 1pm to 4pm PST on the VPN network. Each episode features a mix by a Body Tools resident on the first hour and a half, and then a special guest mix is featured on the second hour and a half.
