Amsterdam via Wales DJ & producer Maroki unveils a darker, more eccentric side to his productions, this time opting for four bass heavy, left-leaning cuts of idiosyncratic dance-floor experimentation on LTFIRE. Nestled amongst the trees along the river lJ, Maroki is surrounded by influence, from the city's bustling streets to the tranquility of nature's boundless beauty; Maroki’s work walks the tight-tope between these two spaces, a place where machines and human complexity meet.

‘Pots & Pans & Handstands’ opens up the A-Side with a high-octane journey, meshing breaks and shape-shifting bass with hoovering pads that sound like landing UFOs. ‘Hasnoot’ continues this menacing theme, providing an immersive experience that feels compulsive and raw. Yet, there’s elements of fun and flashes of colour, adding to the almost audio visual vibe Maroki can create. 

The B side opens with ‘Boiler’ a nocturnal groove that sways ominously in the wind; If the UFOs were landing on the records A side, this is the soundtrack to their dystopian future. Maroki completes his metamorphosis with ‘San Andras’,  visuals of large spaces with high concrete ceilings come to mind, where the track's mechanics can thrive, reverberating beautifully amongst the looming shadows of dancers.

To mark the pending release of my upcoming joint EP with Mineral (forthcoming on Omni Music on 28th August, here's my 'Helsinki to Hampshire') mix.  The mix includes all 4 tracks from the EP, alongside my forthcoming remixes of Synthforce and InTake for Default Recordings, a first play for my remix of Woken Balance's track 'Andromeda' (forthcoming on Metius Music), and my solo track Like Minds (Out now on the fantastic Sonic Landscapes compilation on EC Underground).

The first part of the mix focusses on cinematic dancefloor sounds / atmospheric and jungle, and then things switch towards a jazzier direction for a bit towards the end, including a sneak peek of a joint track with my Codename: Amen co-owner Rome. 

You can catch Mineral, Rome and I all playing in Southampton at Codename: Amen on 1st October 2022, with Dead Man's Chest headlining - hopefully see you there!

Berlin-based Ukrainian DJ and producer MIURA steps up for the next Lobster Theremin mix with an hour of groove-heavy house, acid and groove-heavy old school sounds.

Having worked as creative director and booker for the Kyiv venue duo Vognyk Bar/Arsenal XXII, MIURA transposed her life to Berlin following the devastating Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Now working on music full time, and with a scintillating HÖR radio set under her belt, here she presents the essence and beauty of her sound as a selector and DJ. A one hour expression of pure love and a story of inner feelings.

Exclusive: Nicolas Duque - Ting-a-ling

Launched in 2014 by Jimmy Asquith Lobster Theremin and its sub-labels as well as Lobster Theremin Distribution have become a synonym for quality electronic music and a playground as well as get-together of artists releasing music cross-genre. Up next, but not a newcomer to the Lobster Theremin cosmos, is Colombian pace-setter Nicolas Duque with a four-tracker on LT's SITU Records, which simply goes by the name of Misdirection. Known and beloved for his melodic approach and a UKG-twist, Nicolas delivers just that with his most current release. The B1, Ting-a-ling, is built along its catchy synth-chord line in combination with Nicolas' well-known driving bass-line. The addition of cosmic soundscapes within the track rounds the it off perfectly and harmoniously leaving dancers and listeners with a feel-good-vibe.

Nicolas Duque's Misdirection EP will be released on SITU Records on September 9th, 2022.

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of ten team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a bi-monthly podcast series called 'art:casts'. DJing and crate digging since his teens, Moakz (Jon) was resident and promoter for the highly regarded Offshore & Toast events in Southampton during the mid-late 90's and early 00's, and was also an old-skool hardcore resident for Adrenalin during the same period, also playing at numerous other events and free parties during this period.  He subsequently co-produced and released several Nu-Skool Breaks tracks under the pseudonym Mobius on Ape Records, Dusted Breaks, VIM Records and Yellow Finger.

Moakz has recently returned, energised by the contemporary jungle and atmospheric sounds, with a new sound and several releases in quick succession which merge atmospheric elements with timeless breaks to deliver a mix of both epic dancefloor jungle and serene melodies. Soaring amens, space-age synths and rolling bass combine perfectly in his music and DJ sets which draw on both the classic and modern jungle and atmospheric sounds, from time to time drawing on elements of old-skool breakbeat Hardcore and more mature Liquid and Autonomic vibes.

Moakz is a co-owner and resident of Codename: Amen, a Southampton-based event focussing on modern and classic Jungle, 160, Breakbeats, Hardcore and Atmospheric DnB / Jungle.
