There would be no EXHIBITION : RAW, at least not as we know it, without the spectral presence of DAVE MOTH, a name that threads itself, unassumingly yet insistently, throughout the architecture of BEN LOST’s award-winning compilation.

But, as with all hauntings, the origins are displaced, nonlinear. The beginning, if such a term can even be applied, goes back to 2020; a year already thick with collapse and strange opportunity. It was MOTH who introduced LOST to Archie - who together were operating under the brief, brutish banner of HARDBODY - with Archie simultaneously farming hard trance pastures that would soon go on to bloom under the alias CLAIRE’S ACCESSORIES. And for LOST, it was CA’s 2021 remix of Venus by FEDERATION that signalled a shift towards a tough, speed-drenched sound that circled back to what initially excited him about trance in the wild 1990s.

But DAVE MOTH was never simply a producer. He emerged from the art-damaged debris of the early 2000s, co-founder of THE FILTHIEST PEOPLE ALIVE alongside GAVIN IT, a project less musical act than acid-drenched détournement, somewhere between DIVINE and SIGUE SIGUE SPUTNIK. From there, Peterborough’s hardcore scene swallowed him whole, going on to tour Europe with the old school / communal HHH on lead guitar.

The early 2010s offered another shift / reconnection. MOTH reunited with LOST, alongside SOLARSTONE, joining aforementioned trance romo’s FEDERATION on guitar, just in time to cowrite and perform on their debut album F, a record saturated with the residue of rave utopias and post-punk entropy.

Parallel to this, MOTH straddled space / acid / hard rock projects in RIDDLES, MAGIC MOSS, and MARSHES - the latter fronted by LOST - before taking a 180 4/4 turn in 2024 to collaborate as SIDE WOUND, whose Leftfield and Lydon after a handful of mitzis debut Tremor Dollar (with Paul McGregor of ULTERIOR) sounded like a late capitalist death disco in an abandoned Meadowhall shopping centre.

Now, RACKET SPORTS (LOST194) marks DAVE MOTH’s solo debut on LOST LANGUAGE: full throttle, high-speed drama, foot to the floor at 154. Haunted wails under steel city kicks and warehouse clangs, channelling the gated spirit of REACTIVATE-era chaos. It’s the kind of gear LARRY THE LOBSTER might’ve smuggled up his CERVICAL GROOVE in a warehouse circa 1996.

FACTORIA, whose DARKSKYE remix was pitched up into the Gods by LOST on his latest EXHIBITION comp, returns with a technicolour remix that finds that sweet spot between peak-time euphoria and undercurrent tension - FSOE via AA Meeting, if you like. While Norwegian talent AFGANG, whose original RACKET SPORTS remix helped set the tone on EX: RAW, brings a club-ready dreamy donk twist alongside a darker, swampier ‘Forest Flip’ version.

Rounding off the package is another DAVE MOTH original CRYSTAL DAWN. A riff-heavy hard trance trip, filled with PSY-FI FX, unhinged fills, and dangerous / playful drops, a record that points backwards and forwards all at once, into rave’s unresolved future.

Came runner up (again in 2004) in Guy Ornadels’ Ministry Of Sound ‘Future’ competition. A couple of months later appeared alongside Filterheadz to perform a Progressive mix on Guy Ornadels' 'Future' show for MoS Radio. 

In 2024 came joint winner of Wax Formats' Vinyl only Dj competition winning a warm up slot at Wax Formats' 'Air Reunion' event for dj's Ryan Adelo, SWAP,  former Godskitchen resident AJ Gibson, and trance legends; Lange, The Thrillseekers and Airwave. 

Released 'Innerversions' on Pure Progressive and received support from Solarstone and Markus Schulz' Global DJ Broadcast Sunrise set.

I started going to clubs in the early 90s, right around the time when electronic music hit the clubs. The countless events of the early 90s and the completely new music style and the atmosphere of smoky caves were something completely new. At that time, vinyls and CDs were listened and bought to in record stores. The most famous of which in Finland was Street Beat run by DJ Joke (RIP). Jokke was also an amazing DJ and is considered the father of Finnish techno culture.

Certain radio programs were another way to discover new artists and music. Perhaps the most influential of these for me was Beatbox run by Aki Matilainen of Radio CITY. DJ Orkidea's first radio mix was also recorded here (which I still have on Beatbox's C-cassette number 18). At that time, almost all the money was wasted on record stores and luckily I have saved those records to this day. Elektronic music is still a big part of my life every day and I thought it would be great to bring out those old songs. Especially the ones that you don't usually hear on every mix. Inspired by this, I started making my own mixes and bringing out the songs that many younger people may never have heard before.

I personally like more melodic trance and my biggest favorites over the years have been:

Most memorable events that I have experienced in club scene is in the early 90s, DJ Kid Paul live at Botta in Helsinki. Grace perfoming live (in 95 or 96) on the Big Bang (not 100% sure about this name) cruise from Helsinki to Stockholm. Last year was the first Luminosity Beach, where I finally saw The Space Brothers and Matt Darey live, amazing!

He has remixed a wide range of artists—from globally recognized acts like Faithless, The Human League, Moby, and Yello to rising talents shaping the future of the scene.

Under influential aliases including L.S.G., Paragliders, S.O.L., The Ambush, and others—as well as under his own name—Oliver has explored and defined a broad spectrum of underground electronic genres.
His work spans techno, trance, house, and ambient, all while developing a signature sound that is instantly recognizable and deeply respected.
