She thought someone would stay. for sure
at the Christmas break from the tour.
But when the buses pulled out to go home
She was the only one left ...alone
She wrapped her coat tight, walked Fifth Avenue slow,
Lights in the windows, families aglow.
Her name lit the charts, her voice filled the air,
But on Christmas Eve, no one was there.
She smiled for the cameras, waved through the pain,
Then slipped through the crowd like snow in the rain.
She hid it well, like stars hide the night,
But inside her heart, nothing felt right.
Christmas felt quiet, Christmas felt cold,
She had the fame, but no body to hold.
No stockings, no laughter, no firelight glow,
Just echoes of places she used to know.
But she kept walking, kept hoping, kept still —
Wishing for something that might feel real.
Rockefeller center shimmered, the tree touched the sky,
She watched families skate, children skate by
She stepped on the ice, alone in the spin,
No one noticed the star she’d been.
She twirled once, then slowed to a glide,
Trying to smile with tears she denied.
She hid it well, like stars hide the night,
But inside her heart, nothing felt right.
Christmas felt quiet, Christmas felt cold,
She had the fame, but no body to hold
No stockings, no laughter, no firelight glow,
Just echoes of places she used to know.
But she kept walking, kept hoping, kept still —
Wishing for something that might feel real.
Then a little girl skated up slow,
Eyes wide with wonder, cheeks all aglow.
She said, “Thank you, Santa —
Thank you, Santa —
 you made my wish come true.”
“I asked to meet you...you.. you… and now it’s.... you.”
The star knelt down, heart.. full and wide,
And for the first time,.. felt.. joy.. inside.
No spotlight, no stage, no glitter, no show —
Just one child’s smile in the falling snow.
Christmas felt quiet, then Christmas felt bright,
She found her heart in a stranger’s delight.
No stockings, no laughter, no firelight glow,
But something much deeper began to grow.
She held that moment, let go of the pain—
She left the Ice... smiled... whispered her name....
She thought she’d be alone that Christmas eve night
But Christmas…Christmas…
Christmas. Now. felt..right..felt..right.

The fire burns low with a cinnamon glow,
And the tree hums quiet in the softest show.
No snow on the ground, but the feeling is right —
As we open each box where the past holds tight.
There’s one made of paper, curled at the edge,
Hung every year along the tree edge 
A crocheted star from Nana's  hand,
And French-blown glass from a flea market stand.
The Bake-O-Lite bell sings in pastel tones,
to the bubble lights that uncle john used to own
Every ornament tells a story,
Of love, of time, of faded glory.

A Snoopy that’s chipped but still holds on.
Santa’s elves with their felted shoes,
And angels trumpes telling the good news
Beads strung clown on a fraying thread,
 paper raindeer next to that old Santa head
Every ornament tells a story,

She’s been gone a long while now,
But she’s still here somehow.
Out in Arizona, where the sun forgets to snow,
Her painting hangs — and I still know.
She came from the East with a suitcase of grace,
Joined us out West in a quiet place.
At the foothills of the Superstition range,
Where the light was gold and the seasons strange.
No snow ever fell, but it didn’t need to —
Her brush brought winter, and the past came through.
When the cold feels warm,
And the silence sings,
I see her hand in the simplest things.
A mountain, a house, a cow in the sleigh —
Painted in love on a long-lost day.
It’s more than a scene, it’s a doorway home —
To the time and tales I still call my own.
She painted it young, back in '44,
A barn, a brand, and a snow-covered floor.
A cow by the fence, a sleigh in the lane,
A world she imagined, soft and plain.
I hang it proud where the desert winds blow,
And somehow, it still makes the cactus glow.
When the cold feels warm,
And the silence sings,
I see her hand in the simplest things.
A mountain, a house, a cow in the sleigh —

Years spent hunched over sticky barroom tables and scribbling lyrics on napkins earned him a reputation—not in the spotlight but in the back rooms where deals are made. He wrote melodies that found their way into the hearts of stars who had lost their own muse. He sold his creations for cash, with no recognition, but the whisper of his songs carried the weight of his soul.

Finally, he bought this piece of desert paradise—a stable income from his timeless songs allowed him to live comfortably, if anonymously.
