In this week’s episode, host Daniel Raimi talks with Resources for the Future Fellow Brian C. Prest about the effects of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. As the world’s leading exporter of LNG, the United States has been ramping up capacity to produce and transport LNG to meet global demand. Prest describes how this increasing trend affects domestic oil and gas prices and the extent to which the federal government influences the production of oil and gas. He also discusses the global and domestic effects of increasing LNG production and exports on emissions, including which kinds of energy US LNG exports are substituting or displacing in other countries, variation in methane emissions across different sites of gas production, and the social cost of these methane emissions.

When you throw something away, it’s gone as far as you are concerned. But in fact, it’s still around and will most likely end up in a landfill. Landfills are where solid waste goes to build up into unpleasant mounds and where organic waste, like food that is thrown away, goes to fester and decompose, giving off huge amounts of methane gas. Methane is one of the most potent greenhouse gases and a big contributor to climate change.

Whether you call it trash, waste or garbage, it’s in our interest to reduce the amount we generate, so that less is sent to landfills. In this program, we are getting to zero waste with Richard McHale, Director of Austin Resource Recovery.

The $4 trillion Republican spending bill, signed by President Trump on July Fourth, is packed with giveaways to the oil and gas industry. These include tax breaks, opening more public lands and offshore acres to drilling, and a lowering of royalty rates that oil and gas companies must pay for extracting fuel from government lands. Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful” bill is also full of ugly ironies, including this one: While Trump campaigned on lowering energy prices for consumers, his spending bill is expected to raise average household energy costs by about $280 per year, in part because it slashes support for wind and solar, which are some of the cheapest forms of energy. Breaking Down the Fossil Fuel Handouts in Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill”

Today on American Indian Airwaves (AIA), listeners will hear from the Climate Justice Organizer of the Pueblo Action Alliance, an Indigenous women and femme-led grassroots organization, which has been actively building both a community and a movement to resist false solutions being pushed across New Mexico and on Pueblo lands.

In collaboration with the New Mexico No False Solutions Coalition, they successfully defeated eight state legislative bills promoting false solutions—including those advancing carbon capture, hydrogen, brackish and reclaimed water projects, and the reclassification of natural gas as renewable energy. The PAA’s intent is to keep this coalition growing and continue building power across the state. With this year’s turnout, Pueblo Action Alliance—alongside the No False Solutions Coalition—is setting the bar and offering a blueprint for how to build, empower, and uplift communities to defend the sacred from carbon colonialism. Listeners will hear this and more about the various successful campaigns of the PAA in defending the sacred in a “just transition”.
