Another month, another descent into the machinery.

This time the controls are handed to Mihail P, a producer and DJ with a taste for techno that stretches across eras without sounding like a museum tour. His productions and DJ sets lean toward deep atmospheres, melodic pressure and patient groove science, the sort of tracks that unfold gradually while you realise twenty minutes have passed and you have been staring approvingly at a hi-hat.

For this mix Mihail pulls together a wide sweep of techno history. Early 90s futurist tackle, mid 90s machine funk, deeper 2000s explorations and a few newer transmissions for good measure. There are moments of Detroit-tinged elegance, UK techno grit, deep space drift and late night warehouse hypnosis. Proper heads-down music.

Alongside his production work, Mihail runs Earthbound Recordings, his own imprint dedicated to atmospheric, thoughtful techno. The second release on the label, Earthbound002, is currently around the corner and should be landing very soon, so keep your radar tuned for that one.

Newton Benneti nasceu em Guarulhos, em 1977. Criado no bairro do Cabuçu, ao pé da Serra da Cantareira, ele conviveu com a (boa) música desde sempre. Seu pai é João Nelson, musicista da banda Os Versáteis, que gravou com Tom Zé e Elis Regina. A música eletrônica chegou a ele pelos programas de rádio da Sound Factory. Iniciou a carreira de DJ em 1996, no grupo “Código Negro”, de Guarulhos. O interesse pela música eletrônica vem no ano seguinte e, em 1999, começa a produzir. Apresentou-se em clubes lendários como a Lov.e e raves como a Fusion. Em 2001, muda-se para o interior de São Paulo e começa a faculdade de Filosofia na Universidade Estadual Norte do Paraná (Uenp). Ali atua em movimentos estudantis e segue com a produção musical e apresentações no circuito universitário na fronteira entre São Paulo e Paraná. Em 2010, lançou seu primeiro EP internacional pelo selo Chibar Records, da Alemanha. Hoje continua produzindo e lançando música eletrônica distante do mainstream, e transitando entre diversos gêneros da música eletrônica não comercial. Do Deep ao Techno, com pitadas de psicodelia, Newton B. é DJ da resistência underground da música eletrônica brasileira.
