Leslie is joined by Jim Savage, Legislative Representative for the United Steelworkers (USW).

The two discuss how the U.S. Dept. of Veterans' Affairs has been understaffed and underfunded for decades, often proving to be a barrier to those who served getting the care they need.

However, rather than bolstering this vital lifeline, early on in the Trump administration, amid brutal cuts to a number of federal agencies, it announced that it would eliminate approximately 83,000 positions at the VA.

While this was part of a larger effort to gut the federal government in the name of efficiency, as in other areas, there was nothing targeted or strategic about these cuts.

Jim explains how the USW and their "Veterans of Steel" group is not only fighting these cuts, but working across the political aisle to promote common sense legislation to further help U.S. military veterans.

Forró Ancestral - Vol. 1

Kevin Key is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel who served with the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment before going through special forces selection and assessment (SFAS) and becoming a Special Forces Officer (18A) with 7th Special Forces Group. He started his military career in the Army National Guard while attending college under the simultaneous membership program (SMP). He served at Special Operations Command - South (SOCSOUTH) and has commanded a unit within the 82nd Airborne Division. 

At one point in this episode, Kevin recounts Operation Willing Spirit (Colombia version is Operation Jacque) — the effort to locate and verify hostages taken after a 2003 FARC plane was shotdown in Colombia, and how U.S. and Colombian forces used covert tactics (including a fake humanitarian operation) to free captives years later.

The episode also traces Key’s path post‑military shift into real estate, restaurant/event property ownership (Cosmic Tiki), cattle ranching and writing about carnivore nutrition in his book.

SUGAR LAND, TX – November 10, 2025 — Despite the government shutdown that canceled Fleet Week and the Marine Corps Band concert at Jones Hall, local Marines are carrying on with tradition in true Devil Dog fashion. The 250th Marine Corps Birthday will be celebrated at Talyard Brewing Co., 1033 Imperial Blvd, Sugar Land, TX, with a Cake Cutting Ceremony and “To the Corps” Toast honoring 250 years of Marine Corps excellence.

Doors open at 1700, the Cake Cutting Ceremony begins at 1900, and the live “To the Corps” Toast takes place at 2000. The event is open to all Marines, family, and friends — no entry fee. Uniforms are optional but encouraged, with casual Marine Corps business attire requested.

“The Marines have landed, and the situation is well in hand,” reads the invitation, reflecting the spirit of the Corps’ proud legacy.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to secure the limited “To the Corps” Commemorative Set, featuring a hand-rolled 250th birthday cigar, a custom shot glass made from a 25mm Bushmaster casing, a 50ml bottle of Devil Dog Whiskey, and a 250th Challenge Coin engraved with the Tun Tavern script. Proceeds benefit Wheelchairs for Warriors.
