I genuinely really enjoy Mario & Luigi Brothership, honestly the best overall game in the series hands down imo! ...One missed opportunity, however, was in the music department. Among other areas that could have been a wee bit better, Zokket's battle later in the game doesn't have a unique theme, instead using the normal "major boss" theme (the track I call "Beatdown of Brotherly Proportions.") I actually wound up getting inspired enough to try to fix this issue myself, pulling a Bowser's Inside Story DX on this son of a bitch. (Getting this laid out structure-wise was admittedly a bit of a pain in the ass btw, figuring out the proper tempo and key for some of these motifs was pretty damn hard ngl lol.)
Knew from the moment I started making this track that "Fortress Zokket" was going to be my basis point of choice. Its jazzy nature was not only fun to fuck around with, but also puts it in line with the stylings of the actual battle themes in Brothership proper. Really glad I got an excuse to use my jazzy libraries again, including my recent *actually legal* acquistions of the ProjectSAM Swing libraries. And for once, my percussion track doesn't suck total ass! :D
Included "Beatdown of Brotherly Proportions" here to not only reference the major boss theme, but also to compliment the jazzy styling with the growling brass tidbit I borrowed specifically.
The more somber section with "A Tragic Past" and "Chase to the End!" was a bit of a happy accident tone-wise, but it wound up working out wonderfully, especially considering I was treating this as the "final" boss theme. By the point in the story you fight Zokket, the twist with him and Cozette has already been revealed to the player, so someone going into the battle fresh would expect this to be the ultimate conclusion to said twist. And of course, "The Soli-Tree" and "The End of the World" are quoted here to represent Reclusa, the *true* main villain of the story that has actually been the one pulling the strings.
Genuinely incredibly happy with how this turned out as a whole, and I hope y'all enjoy! :3
(P.S. The reason I also credit Takayasu Seo down below is cause, after doing some research to figure out what tf a music preparator is, I found out it's highly likely she could have made critical changes to the motifs and/or arrangements in Brothership proper, to the point she deserved credit alondgside Hideki Sakamoto for the OST.)

The Medusa Route (aka "Severed Bonds") AU is an alternative version of events in Mario & Luigi Brothership, where choosing to go with Adaphne's plan for bypassing Fortress Zokket's Barrier, completely disregarding your bonds with Technikki and IDLE in the process... actually has consequences. Far wider reaching consequences than you could possibly imagine. For the sake of not bloating this section, all you need to know is that there's an optional superboss present in the Medusa Route only. Y'know... this is really fitting in a twisted, cosmic sort of way. It's been easily almost a decade since I last did a remix of MEGALOVANIA itself. No alternate characters, no SM64 electric pianos, just. Pure unadulterated MEGALOVANIA. And it's really damn funny that I did that, AND managed to tie it to an AU somehow. X'D
ANYHOW! The logic behind this track is "what if Toby Fox collaborated with Hideki Sakamoto, like a Pokemon Scarlet/Violet sort of deal?" Where even though it's very obviously been touched up to Sakamoto, ala the complete lack of soundfonts here and only VSTs being used, it would still be the most Toby Fox-sounding track imaginable (and I mean that in a positive way.) For this cover, I drew a *ton* of inspiration from Frakture's Smash-based remix (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMmi3cz_thE) in regards to structure and certain stylistic decisions. What's especially so satisfying to me about this track, history and AU context aside: I didn't use a *single* MIDI reference for the MEGALOVANIA stuff. Not even ONE. One other cool thing to note is for the intro I added, based on the actual Halloween Hack Megalo. While having MIDI-compatible pitch bending, Mixcraft has nowhere *near* the robust level of pitch bending that's possible with (say) FL Studio. So I actually cheated that huge downpitch with a plugin called kHs Pitch Shifter. Came out rly clean, all things considered. :)

Figured the original version of this track playing on loop for 3 minutes wouldn't have been very entertaining, so I figured I'd make something with at least a LITTLE more variety. Used Zokket's Extension Corps motif cause Zokket, Trouble In Paradise motif cause this do be trouble tho, and toy piano instrument cause Reclusa funni. Also not even going to lie here. For the piano part, I let my @ut-alt-1 brainrot win and was inspired by their version of Premonition.

The Diventri Route AU is a take on Mario & Luigi Brothership's story where my OC Diventri (an oc x canon with Maykit) is present during the events of the game, and things go in a very different direction as a result.
Specifically in this AU, Mario and Luigi don't arrive at Lottacoins in time, so the Corps manage to move Peach and test a prototype of the Glohmatic Quad-Ray on her. It's very effective... TOO effective, in fact. For more details, read the excerpt about this part of the AU on Google Docs!

So... yeah, I decided to do something radically different for once! I love tracks like Pepper Steak from OFF, and decided to go completely off the fucking rails in a similar vein with a Mario track. More specifically, I took the Darkle Battle track from Princess Peach Showtime and edited the EVER LIVING SHIT OUT OF IT, even throwing it through a stem separator so I could do even wackier edits. Since Peach references that game in Brothership, I figured it was worth looking through that game's OST and finding smth worth working with. And lo behold I did! (Should rly try playing that game sometime btw lmao.) I also sampled "Zokket's Extension Corps" in a similar vein, seeing as they're responsible for Peach being like this.
There are literally only *two* VSTs in this: ProjectSAM Swing for a new accordion part and a brass rise, and Noire for a new piano part. Other than that, LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE is sampled from one thing or another. Some from Darkle Battle and Zokket's Extension Corps, some from my library of loops that I got with Mixcraft 10, and (of course) ol' reliable amen breaks. This is a fuckass final result, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Hope you guys enjoy!

BET Y'ALL WEREN'T EXPECTING **THIS,** HUH >:D
Anyhow some friends and I were discussing potential ideas for if Brothership had differing battle themes based on which sea you were in, and even different points of the story, ala something like the TTYD remake. This track came as a result of that discussion, and depending on how my motivation treats me, there may be more to come. I was *especially* motivated by my two challenge runs as well, surprisingly enough, cause *good LORD* I got sick of hearing the same battle theme during the grinds those challenges presented. I love Fightin' Shanty and didn't understand that criticism before, but needless to say I do now lol.
This was a ton of fun to put together. Really wanted to capture the despair and utter hopelessness of the Reclusa World track, and it wound up turning out more delightfully chaotic than I could have ever imagined it would. Reclusa World in and of itself is already a musically chaotic track, to the point that referencing key scales was actually little-to-no help for figuring out chords, and I definitely think I managed to turn up that discordance to a fitting degree. And again, big thanks to Kristian for picking out the vast majority of the drums for me, they were easily my biggest bottleneck by a country mile and he was a HUGE help. Not much more to say, so I hope y'all enjoy! :3

Finally following up on what I mentioned in the description of the Reclusa World battle theme! Admittedly not sure how much time will pass between any subsequent installments to this "series," though. I was only able to complete this one as quickly as I did due to a combination of motivation and... well, being a leave of absence for my mental health. I suffered a mental snap at work near the start of May, and I've been seeing a therapist and psychiatrist since. Been taking medication for my now-diagnosed bipolar though, and I've been doing a LOT better since. Will be heading back to work within the next couple weeks though, so that means my free time will be decreasing once again.
Anyhow! This was an incredibly ambitious idea on my part. Blending together aspects of Skorcheen, Slippenglide AND Heatfreeze's themes was a very tall order, but I felt it was the only proper way to approach this sea's music. Knew right from the get-go that I wanted a 3/4 section to more directly represent Slippenglide, and getting the Fightin' Shanty elements in that section retranscribed to the new time signature was a fun challenge. But of course I also had the majority 4/4 sections, which posed their own challenges. The backing guitar was a *_royal pain in the ass_* to get transcribed to a satisfactory level, and the melodies and their respective harmonies were no slouches either.
On top of that, I also made very deliberate instrument choices here. The "soft" woodwinds (flute/oboe/english horn) are directly derived from Slippenglide, and the "harsh" brass and rock organ were taken from Skorcheen, just to give some examples. On the whole, I'm incredibly proud of how this turned out, and I hope y'all enjoy! :3

...To be perfectly honest? I did NOT expect to have this done so damn soon, let alone before I go back to work next week, and be as proud of it as I am. But here we are: the Color-Full Sea battle theme!
The idea for this was originally a LOT different. I intended to go full-on big band, ala something like the TTYD remake's Chapter 6 battle theme. I wound up stumbling my way into something more overtly jazzy/swing-based though, and I was like "...hey wait a sec, this ain't too shabby!" So a ton of trial and error later, especially with the chords and percussion, and I made it to the point that I'm writing the very description you're reading. Incorporated a couple motifs from Lottacoins and Merrygo, and Allsand is primarily represented through instruments (sitar and flute.) Also incorporated some calliope cause Merrygo funni. Wish I could put my thoughts into more coherent words, but ye I'm incredibly happy with how this turned out. Hope y'all enjoy! :3

...Wow. I am GENUINELY FLOORED with how quickly I did this one. Like I knew it was gonna be quick, since I'd already transcribed Fortress Zokket for Resist The Power of Glohm, but *WTF YOU _MEAN_ I HAVE IT DONE RIGHT NOW!?!?*
Anyway yeah it be Zokket hours! The one flute trill I put in here was a royal pain in the ass to make work, seeing as Mixcraft has recently decided "I'll be inconsistent with how much I obey your instrument's keyswitches actually!" Still not sure how to fix it but yeah. Anyway! Considering the intended vibe of this dungeon as a "final" area, I figured it being intense like this would fit really fit. Of course I snuck a toy piano in here cause _goober,_ but there are still bits of Fightin' Shanty in this track that AREN'T the drums if you listen closely. (It's even in the same key as Fightin' Shanty too, E minor!) ;)

Wow... Just wow. Honestly can't believe I finished this one so quickly either. Like holy shit, I did NOT expect to be here writing the description for the final "normal" installment in this series already!
The track name's a play on "Trouble In Paradise," the name I gave the "oh fuck something has gone wrong" track. Bit silly but I liked it ye. Anyway! As some of you may know from the comments on the previous tracks, I originally intended this to be a sort of march-esque track. But as I actually analyzed Brothership's tracks, and tried desperately to find ANYTHING march-like that Sakamoto had composed, I realized fairly quickly that it wouldn't fit and would be far too big of an undertaking. So I changed direction to what's presented here. This track is in the same key as Fightin' Shanty, with the opening being basically "Fightin' Shanty but off" on purpose to sell the whole "oh god something's VERY wrong here" vibe that Offandon initially gives the player. Offandon's motifs are also featured *prominently* here, one of them even replacing the ending brass refrain. Completely omitted accordion from the instrumentation, much like Zok to the System, and I heavily mutated the chord progression (and the parts of the Fightin' Shanty melody that I used) to match Offandon's chord progression. And although I didn't really incorporate much (if any) of Wayaway Island's track, I *did* add the SMB3 Castle part as a short countermelody of sorts.
This wound up becoming its own delightfully fucked up beast, and I couldn't be happier with it. Hope y'all enjoy! :3

They're the names I gave the tracks for my gamerip release of Brothership's OST, which you can find the download links for over on my Bluesky! And until (or if) Nintendo ever gives these tracks official names, *these* are the track names I work with for the sake of consistency on my part.

So... *this* particular track of mine! Out of all the characters in Brothership, the one that I've clung to the *most* is Cozette (and by extension Zokket.) She's such a tragically fascinating villain, especially with how that which caused her turn -- the way society treats Wattanists as tools and not people -- is... not resolved at all, and practically doubled-down on by the story. All of those repressed feelings. The frustration, the loneliness, the hatred... especially the internalized SELF-hatred perpetuated by the very nature of her position. They go unvalidated by the story and the society it's about, meaning this cycle *will* begin again with Connie.

Anyhow! This track was a TON of fun to put together. Got to use a few soundfonts that I've never been able to before, and it's always a treat to work with the Brothership motifs. "A Tragic Past" especially, which I essentially consider Cozette's motif, was nice to work in here. Also HOLY SHIT THE FREEDOM MOTIF IDEA TURNED OUT FAR BETTER THAN EVEN *I* HOPED IT WOULD! Even before I had the idea for this whole track, I always felt the Freedom motif and that one section of Fortress Zokket would mesh really well with each other. And while I used some VSTs here, I predominantly used soundfonts (especially some that I downloaded ages ago and never got to use until now.) Am incredibly with how this turned out, and I hope y'all enjoy! :3
