Finding Strength in Vulnerability: Palm Sunday Reflections with Pastor Richie

Pastor Jim gave the 17th installment of his series on the book of Romans, entitled, Grace Unveiled. Subtitled “Matters of the Heart,” the text for the message was Romans 5:20, “Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.” When the law was given, it exposed the many sins of the people. The law’s effect is that the more clearly they saw what was right, the more things they discovered that were wrong. The more we see our sins, the more aware we become of the penalty from which God has saved us. But thanks be to God, those who put their faith and trust in Christ receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life!

Aashna, known behind the decks as SmoCo, is a first-generation Indo-Canadian DJ making waves in the electronic music scene. With a lifelong passion for music, she grew up immersed in the punk scene while secretly harboring a deep love for dubstep. Today, her dynamic sets span a variety of genres, including UK Garage, Breaks, Jungle, Drum and Bass, and, of course, her first love—Dubstep.  

SmoCo’s musical journey is deeply personal, her track selections strive to showcase a diversity of sound and emotion as well as showcasing sounds from her South Asian background. Beyond the decks, she’s a cornerstone of her local EDM community, bringing her passion for connection and creativity to every project. Aashna plays key roles in Neon Jungle Music Festival, curating the bass-heavy stage Obscura and managing the media team—a natural fit for her, as she’s rarely seen without her camera.  

Her dedication doesn’t stop there; she contributes to renowned festivals, further cementing her reputation as a skilled curator and community builder. When she’s not spinning tracks or crafting unforgettable events, Aashna channels her creativity into photography, capturing the vibrant energy of the scenes she helps create.  

SmoCo is more than a DJ; she’s a force in the EDM community, driven by a love for music, showcasing diversity, and the people who make it all happen.
