We took a brief summer break to relax and celebrate our recognition as the National Association of Black Journalists' 2024 Chapter of the Year. Now, we're back with more episodes to close out the year strong.

To kick things off, we're excited to bring you a live panel from April focused on meteorology and weather journalism. NYABJ President BONITA SOSTRE led a lively discussion with three New York-based meteorologists: JASON FRAZIER from Fox News, TONY SADIKU from WCBS, and GUY BROWN from NY1. They shared insights into their unique career paths and what it takes to stay ahead in a field as unpredictable as the weather.

They share stories about their experiences at Howard University as well as Dr. Williams being the first Postdoctoral Research Fellows in the center from the communications discipline as well as how she is one of the social scientists connected to NOAA’s National Weather Service that helps communicate how weather impacts Americans.

With a B.S. in Chemistry, an M.S. in Atmospheric Science, and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Dr. Carlis shares how NCAS-M helped him unlock his love for atmospheric science and how he has grown within the NOAA organization over the past 22 years.

Podcast host Dr. Tia C. M. Tyree speaks with Dr. Segayle Thompson, an accomplished meteorologist and NCAS-M alum. She is currently the project manager for the Phased Array Radar Acquisition project. In this episode, she discusses her various roles within NOAA and other government agencies such as NASA and the D.O.D as well as how NCASM help facilitate her growth within the atmospheric science field.

Podcast host Dr. Tia C. M. Tyree speaks with Janae Elkins, a National Weather Service emergency response meteorologist and class of 2018 NCAS-M alum. Janae knew she wanted to be a meteorologist since the age of six, driven by her fascination with severe weather. Her journey from Jacksonville State to the NWS highlights her dedication to helping people understand the weather and take necessary precautions. In this episode, Janae shares her experiences, her role in briefing NWS leadership on significant weather impacts across the United States and offers advice for young people interested in meteorology.
