Méditation guidée : La bienveillance - Metta

In deze meditatie gaan we oefenen met het belichamen van Metta - Liefdevolle Vriendelijkheid - door middel van wat door Thich Nath Hanh ook wel de 'yoga van de glimlach' werd genoemd.

Want hoewel Liefdevolle Vriendelijkheid erg mooi klinkt: zolang het slechts bij een woord blijft, betekent Metta geen vriendelijkheid, maar enkel leegte. Dan bewegen de lippen misschien wel bij het uitspreken van de zinnen. Maar we verplaatsen slechts lucht. 

Metta is juist een hele werkelijke harts-praktijk. Het is een praktische beoefening van het hart. Dus als we het hebben over liefdevolle vriendelijkheid, dan zullen we dit daarom ook echt tot leven moeten brengen, ín ons lichaam. Moeten, dat wil zeggen: noodzakelijkerwijs. Want Metta is vooral een voel-woord. Metta is geen cognitie. Het is geen oefening van het hoofd, maar een oefening van het hart. Het is een praktijk  van het voelen. 

Juist dit voelen van Metta, in en met ons lichaam, brengen we tot uitdrukking door middel van het bewust en aandachtig oefenen met de glimlach. We brengen de glimlach dóór ons lichaam naar ons hart en van daaruit naar de wereld. 

We brengen Metta in praktijk door te oefenen met de belichaming van de zachte, vriendelijke glimlach van de Boeddha.

Медитація на баченні потенційного щастя

Voor deze meditatie op zelfvergeving leggen we eerst een basis van adem en aandacht voor ons hart. Vervolgens richten we ons op de drie recitaties, of richtingen, van vergeving. 

De eerste richting is daarbij de richting van onszelf naar buiten. We herinneren ons de pijn die we hebben toegebracht en we vragen om vergeving. De tweede richting is die van onszelf naar binnen. Want net zoals wij anderen - bewust en onbewust - pijn hebben gedaan en schade heb berokkend, zo hebben we ook onszelf schade berokkend. We herinneren ons het lijden dat we onszelf hebben berokkend. En bieden we onszelf vergeving aan. De derde richting is die van de wereld naar ons. We herinneren ons de pijn die ons is aangedaan. En we vergeven - of proberen dat of richten ons op de intentie van vergeving. Uiteindelijk vergeven we, niet voor de ander, maar voor onszelf en om de pijn die we anders blijven vasthouden in ons hart, los te kunnen laten.

Ten slotte maakt vergeving het hart helder en open voor de beoefening van liefdevolle vriendelijkheid en voor compassie. We vervolgen de meditatie daarom met het reciteren van de wensen van Liefdevolle Vriendelijkheid. En we eindigen met een gedicht van Mary Oliver waarin ze ons aanmoedigt om de hopeloosheid in onszelf los te laten en uitnodigt tot het zingen van ons eigen levenslied, vol vreugde en liefdevolle vriendelijkheid.

Meditatie op Zelfvergeving

When times get dark we need to look to the light and at times cultivate it within ourselves. In this practice I combine a faith based meditation with a take on classic Metta or loving-kindness practice. I hope it brings a little healing to your heart today.

Metta als Grundlage

A guided meditation that may bring up feelings of gratitude, thankfulness and peace. The benefactor is the first person that we bring to mind when meditating on Mettā, often translated as lovingkindness or overflowing friendliness. I hope that this meditation helps you in your practice and provides some benefit.

This song, "Nawa Arunalu" (New Dawn Rays), is a tribute to the resilience of the Sri Lankan people following the devastating recent floods.

The Story: Tragically, over 300 human lives and countless animals, including our treasured elephants, were lost to the waters. Yet, in this darkness, the world reached out with hands of kindness. This track captures that journey—from the sorrow of loss to the strength of unity and global support.

The Message: The lyrics move from grief to a powerful call for rebuilding our nation without division. The song concludes with a spiritual invocation of the Four Sublime States (Brahmaviharas):

Upekkha (Equanimity)
