In Mexiko ist mit Claudia Sheinbaum zum ersten Mal eine Frau Präsidentin. Und mit ihr steht zum ersten Mal der Kampf gegen Gewalt gegen Frauen auf der Regierungsagenda. Dabei blickt Mexiko auf eine traurige Geschichte von Femiziden zurück. In der Grenzmetropole Ciudad Juarez wurden schon Anfang der 1990er Jahre Fabrikarbeiterinnen systematisch ermordet - aus Hass, weil sie Frauen waren. Alexia Buendia ist in der »Stadt der Frauenmorde« groß geworden. Die junge Frau ist heute Pressesprecherin des Städtischen Fraueninstituts. Dort werden Frauen mit Gewalterfahrungen betreut. Die Handlungsspielräume für Zivilgesellschaften engen sich weltweit immer weiter ein. Neben der Einschränkung von grundlegenden demokratischer Rechten wie Versammlungs-, Vereinigungs- und Meinungsäußerungsfreiheit, geraten auch NGOs und Menschenrechtsaktivist*innen immer weiter unter Druck, etwa durch die Kriminalisierung ihrer Arbeit. An Hand konkreter internationaler Beispiele soll die Systematik dieser Entrechtung dargestellt werden. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt dabei auf Mexiko. Im Interview mit Jana Flörchinger von medico International wird das komplexe Konfliktgeschehen in dem lateinamerikanischen Land betrachtet.
