For Quiet Hours was made for that moment.

Across thirteen instrumental pieces, piano, upright bass and brushed drums create an atmosphere of understated elegance, joined by the occasional warmth of trumpet, saxophone and guitar. Rooted in the timeless language of classic jazz yet shaped with a modern sensibility, the music moves effortlessly between intimacy and sophistication.

These are melodies for candlelit tables and half-filled glasses, for conversations that linger long after dinner, for city windows glowing against the night. Music that never asks to be the centre of attention, yet quietly transforms the room around it.

The exhausting experience of having a mind that simply refuses to switch off. I wanted to capture the frustration, confusion and vulnerability of lying awake while thoughts keep arriving, each one demanding attention. I normally go to sleep well yet only can do about 6 hours 7 if I push it.
The images of cyclones, hail, sheep, waves and the restless mattress reflect how ordinary surroundings can become part of the turmoil. The absurdity of it all, because sometimes you have to laugh at a brain that seems determined to keep working when everything else is begging for sleep.
At its heart, this is not really a song about insomnia; it is about empathy for anyone who has experienced that strange space between exhaustion and wakefulness, where minutes stretch into hours and the simplest thought can become overwhelming. The final sunrise offers no miraculous solution just another day, and the quiet relief of having made it through the night.

Then realising all the thoughts I simply can’t bury

Think of nothing and nowhere if not for awhile

The brain has no switch no emergency button
Complex regions failing just flutter
Like a roller coaster with no brakes to apply
Holding the pillow so close its suffocating

The mattress distressed  but what does it matter
Get up get out of this comfortable haven
Into the chilled night air as a fire dwindles
The slippers the robe quick I’m feeling the cold

What will I do as the night closes closer
Have a drink reed a book I prolong the inevitable
Pass  the room look outside no moon to ponder
I face a mirror now awake at this strange hour

Only awhile before dawn rises once more
Waiting for sunrise  each second’s devoured
I have to lay down take the weight off my frame
Give it a shot  hide from the dark  again

I see what seems to be a beach on an island
Alone I am laughing as all the crabs scatter
The waves crash in and wash around me
My dry bit of sand is now under water

I jolt upright like I have to escape
To  light rays dancing through bedroom drapes
A new days dawned though I floundered on and on
A new days arrived as I sit up and yawn

I am a 72 year old sculptor, writer, filmmaker. All my work is AI driven (the vehicle) but a human wrote the words, edited and mastered the music .
Its wonderful to be capable of creating messages that don't get lost in books  which a great number of works have been, and now put to the music.
I am a conceptual audio artist blending poetry, philosophy, and sonic atmosphere, a multi-disciplinary Artist, since leaving art school in Vancouver,  1972. Check out my website.

the opportunity to share concepts and ideas to a wider audiance is an hounour.
I do feel a responsibility to listeners because creating poetry is a powerful tool.  I love being able to use so many genres to portray the message, as each creates an atmosphere, emotion, or genuine and personal truth.
I do feel like a hypocrite using AI to create the work because I am very concerned that the entire AI revolution is already out of control. I am concerned that the world is not ready for this level of technology with no checks and balances.  At the same time if my messages helps you to see or realise elements that help to change your world in a positive way, then we are both recieving a gift.
I am a percussionist, my style is primarily finger drumming and stretching tones on a jembe drum, this is similar to Indian style Tabla players.

octave plateau – music by Gerhard Andreas Schreiber

Gerhard Andreas Schreiber. Since the 1980s,  composing and producing music under the name octave plateau. What began in the shadowed clubs of the post-punk era and the neon-lit pulse of the Neue Deutsche Welle has grown into a lifelong journey through diverse soundscapes and emotions.

Back then, working with artists like Markus, capturing the spirit of a generation in transition – between analog grit and melodic futurism. But the musical path didn’t stop there.

Today, octave plateau bridges four distinct yet emotionally intertwined genres:

Smooth Jazz – music like warm light on late-night streets; gentle grooves, atmospheric chords, and melodies that breathe and linger. It’s the sound of reflection and release, crafted with subtlety and soul.

New Wave – shimmering synths, melancholic harmonies, and rhythm-driven storytelling. A style rooted in the 80s, but constantly reinterpreted to reflect the tension and beauty of the now.

Deutscher Schlager – emotional, melodic, and lyrical. I approach this genre with both respect and reinvention – drawing from its traditions while reshaping its form for contemporary ears.

Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW) – raw, ironic, and rhythmic. NDW has always been the rebellious heart of octave plateau, combining German lyrics with electronic textures, punk aesthetics, and a dose of playful absurdity.

Since 2024, these songs – some newly written, others rediscovered and reimagined – are being produced in the octave plateau studio in Berlin. Here, the past and the present meet in harmony and friction. Analog synthesizers hum alongside digital clarity. Stories unfold in every track – sometimes with a wink, sometimes with a sigh.

octave plateau is not just a musical alias. It’s a lifelong project, a personal archive, and a sonic playground. Welcome to a place where genres speak to one another – and where every note has a memory.
