I made this one for my new friend Heidy and her brother. She likes salsa style music so I attempted to add a little flair of some percussion generally found in Salsa style tracks. I've had this Latin Guitar Riff in my head for a long time and never put it into a track. So now I have it on top of a smooth, pounding, 4 on the floor peak time kick and bass track  with some Spanish vocal snippets layered in throughout the track. I think it turned out solid. When I was working at a record store in Seattle for nearly all of the 90s and the early 00s, I noticed a trend that I described as "lifestyle music" shoppers.  These were young or young at heart types who rented their own apartment where they would occasionally play host to friends for dinner.  What they were shopping for were new CDs that would fit well with their other CDs that had been bought for this purpose in that person's CD-changer.    

CD Changers allowed you to put five or six cds into the same machine--and it could play them in succession or you could hit "shuffle" and then you'd get a random assortment in your playlist.  It was a great way to "set it and forget it" so your gathering always had a pleasant and appropriate soundtrack.  

What these shoppers were looking for were new options for their CD changers--and their criteria was to find consistently interesting albums that weren't too interesting that they'd compete for attention or drowned out the gathering.  They also needed to be consistent in style and tone--what you wanted was a CD where you didn't feel the pressure to run over to the changer to hit "skip" because there was a song that wasn't appropriate for your gathering.  

...today, you could do that with a playlist--but back then, you needed to curate this all yourself, with careful shopping and good suggestions from your friendly neighborhood record stores and their better informed employees.  

The vibe for these types of purchases still allowed for a great deal of variety.  The albums of Dead Can Dance would fit well with those albums of Gregorian chants that were briefly popular.  You could mix the Cocteau Twins with The Beloved's Conscience cd.  it could be Kings of Convenience, Magnetic Fields, Oleta Adams, Enigma, The Orb...etc.  

Now, Interbay's music (as you probably have noticed by now) would NOT be great "lifestyle" music--it's too all over the place in genre and energy level.  But, occasionally there are tracks that WOULD have fit in--and today's track "An Abundance of Life" would definitely fit--especially with the self-titled album from the recording project known as "Deep Forest."  

I know, because that's what I was going for--and, for a change, I kind of ended up with what I'd been aiming for...  

So, enjoy your dinner party and add this Interbay track to your playlist!

Electronic music has played an important role in my life for decades.  I bought a set of decks and a mixer shorty after attending my first underground warehouse party 25 years ago. A few years later I had honed in on my style of a minimal dark tech-trance sound and I was fortunate enough to spend the next 10 years playing along side some of the biggest names in the industry at countless underground parties. I also held numerous resident slots at at Portland’s & Seattle’s night clubs. These last 10 years I broke away from the dj lifestyle playing a few select gigs here and there however I bought Pc and Ableton Live and continued my journey by diving into the production side of the music. I am still learning something new every day and I have learned to appreciate a much broader spectrum of genres and I enjoy listening to or watching people who are masters at their craft wether that be Techno, House, psy-trance, dubstep… if it’s done well with passion then I’m down with it. I feel I still have a lot of learning and improving as far as producing and mastering is concerned but I’ll continue to learn with my goal to simply create some tracks that I like and that meet or exceed the standards that I have when listening to any other producers work that respect. With that being said if anyone takes the time to give my work a listen, I want to thank you and I hope that you can find something that I have produced inspirational and enjoyable to listen to.
