Qu’est-ce qui se cache derrière les paillettes du travail dans la mode ?  Comment pouvons-nous collaborer pour rendre cette industrie plus saine et épanouissante ? 

Backstage Fashion Talks est une association créée par Émilie, Julia et Sophie qui propose des espaces de discussions pour réfléchir collectivement aux conditions de travail dans la mode.
En avril, on a accueilli Christelle Bakima Poundza et Manon Renault au Point Éphémère. Une rencontre animée par Sophie lors de laquelle on a tenté de répondre à la question suivante : « Qui est invité·e à travailler dans la mode ? »

Avant de vous laisser écouter cette conversation, présentons nos deux invitées : 
Christelle Bakima Poundza est autrice, critique culturelle, enseignante, podcasteuse et réalisatrice. En août 2023, elle publie Corps noirs : réflexions sur le mannequinat, la mode et les femmes noires aux éditions Les Insolentes (Hachette). 

Manon Renault est rédactrice en chef des pages mode aux Inrocks et enseigne les cultural studies à la Sorbonne Nouvelle, où elle mène actuellement une thèse. 

Ensemble, on a discuté du caractère exclusif et excluant propre à cette industrie, des codes qu’il faut adopter pour y entrer, et des enjeux d’inclusivité et de représentativité.

Brought together by their mutual love for music and birds, this eccentric duo has been performing together at clubs and festivals since 2019.

They met at the legendary Electric Pickle, where Beki was a resident DJ and Katie was a frequenter of the dance floor (at this time Katie only Dj’d for her teddy bears). They became instant best friends, and Beki soon took on the role of  “DJ Fairy Godmother”, encouraging Katie to get out of her shell and play in public after years of practicing at home.

Needless to say, it went well, and Beki invited Katie to join the all-women DJ collective she was a part of called The Fates. After the collective dissolved, Katie and Beki continued to work together. This feathery duo is now known for activating dancefloors all over Miami with their funky music & loyal flock.

Inspired by their mutual love of birds, Katie and Beki launched their radio show Birds in Paradise last spring, which airs every first Thursday of the month on Jolt Radio.
