Universe

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, is a mesmerizing display of natural light in the sky, caused by solar flares. These flares, which are massive bursts of energy from the sun, can take about 18 hours to several days to reach Earth. When they collide with Earth's magnetic field, they create stunning light shows visible near the polar regions. The interplay of solar particles and our atmosphere makes each aurora a unique spectacle.

I hope this 9-minute piece will illustrate in your mind the journey of solar particles to us. The complexity of the textures aims to replicate the magical colors and shapes produced by this rare phenomenon. Undoubtedly, a great way to observe an aurora borealis with your eyes closed.

The theme and basis of this evening's "comprovisation" experiment were:
Light diacaustics, i.e. focal lines that are observed on the water surface 
can serve as the basis and source material for a number of sonification translations.
Light sensor and granular sampling meets analog synthesizer and white noise as second random element. A Reservoir of pre-produced Midi compositions complements this Improvisation..

Welcome back from an unexpected month off, we are here with episode 68 of AIR, an interview podcast series with a different theme each episode. 

This month, I’m joined by producer, DJ, and live performer Sibel Kocer, also known as @jakojako_live. Having spent years toiling through manuals, books, and working at the famed synth shop Scheidersladen, Sibel eventually bought her first eurorack and the rest, as they say, was history: her productions are rooted in not only her love of storytelling, but her expertise as a modular specialist. 

On stage, her live and DJ sets are journeys, too, sometimes ambient, other times driving techno, but always thoughtful, hypnotic, and full of texture thanks to her uniquely changing live and studio set up. Sibel recently left her job at Schneidersladen to focus on making and playing music full time, and we sat down together to discuss the career ebbs and flows of an artist on the rise.
