I gathered myself in the dark water, in the thick air, in the heat that rose without light. I was pressure before wind, weight before sound. I folded the world inward and held it there, waiting for the moment when everything would move again.

I am not rain.
I am the force that decides when rain is possible.
I am not wind.
I am the breath that begins wind.

When the sea trembles, it is my first memory.
When the air thickens, it is my arrival.
When the world holds its breath, it is because I am learning to breathe.

I do not come or go.
I return to myself.

Each pulse.
