🌍TOGETHERNESS HARMONY 🌍

Two years after our last release, the repression, bans and closures related to the health crisis have become unbearable. Following surreal government injunctions such as the ban on group dancing, we felt the need to bring artists together to compile a compilation for a return to our essence, the fundamental importance of being together and saturation of the senses are palpable.

This feeling of renewal is similar to the arrival of spring after winter, or a cry of joy to celebrate the sensory experience of a club and remember that our bodies need to dance and release to find balance and harmony with the world.

The compilation will open a dialogue on human trance rituals.

We propose to 12 artists to be part of an adventure that brings to light a new era of club culture. Let's open a new chapter together, where all kinds of musical eccentricities are allowed, where we free ourselves from the rules of the world before.

Always on the lookout for new talent, we are proud to present Cardozo, the multi-faceted artist, who joins the Monstart family for the release of his very first EP "Voices Notes". As a witness of an overflowing multiculturalism, he embodies musically the essence of our vision by materializing in an EP what the public can feel during our events and our DJ sets.

“Voice Notes”, Cardozo’s first EP is an ode to mix blending, universe fusion and musical melting pot from the clubbing culture. The piece’s common thread lies in the work of the voices that unite the different tracks of the EP. Cardozo found his musical inspiration in his background as a sound engineer/arranger. In a series of studio sessions, different voices and unused ad libs gave him a new approach to his musical vision. Indeed, instead of organizing his piece in function of the voice, he chose to consider his productions by reversing the role and by adding another face to these voices. New distorted but haunting sounds emerge.

Cardozo considers autotune and voice processors as audio treatments that are all the more interesting when used to the extreme. Especially with very exploited samples like the carioca beatbox that appears on Clap or Como É, which brings a whole new dimension and allows to enrich the musical universe in which the sample is integrated.

​​Each track has its own rhythmic palettes served by sharp drums, present and prominent, in the foreground. The aesthetics and influences are immediately identifiable by the rhythms that compose them (r&b and dancehall in Hardlibs, baile funk in Clap, dancehall and footwork in Hiz, trap and neoperreo on Como É). The unique and original touch of the producer is to be able to accompany these influences with rhythms with club sounds (rave synth, breakbeats) and to link the whole very quickly for a catchy and impacting result.

"This project aims to mix several styles of music, from worldwide through pop culture (Neo perreo, RnB, dancehall, ragga, trap, Baile funk), and give them a club flavor by drawing on the musical codes of Western European music that we know well, while projecting into the future in terms of sounds and feelings.

These are all familiar styles that I've worked on as an arranger over the last few years in West Africa for several rappers/singers. They're also styles I'm used to mixing as a DJ." Cardozo

Stepping onto France's @monstart-crew records, @pura_pura straddles rap influences, a fervent defender of 808 rhythms, and metallic club sounds on his latest offering - a six-track EP titled 'Odyssey Club' paying tribute to different historical currents of the dance music scene.

Taking over remix duties of the record's ghettotech-influenced 'Feel The 808', @sarahfarina illuminates the track by bringing rhythm and depth, directing the sound toward a new, energetic club sphere.

Monstart was born 13 years ago, out of love and celebration. The fruit of the meeting of Ouanounou (DJ) and Chatte Chatoyante (dancer-performer). 

With its pack of artists coming from all over the world, the label has been exploring club music and culture. Not caring about adhering to one specific genre, they draw from all of their combined influences to create a hybrid project.

With one idea in mind : to be together while celebrating the richness of human singularities.
Since 2009, 56 events mixing music and performances, 17 releases on the label (EPs and compilations) and a 5 years residency on Rinse France have allowed them to express their own vision of club music. After 5 years of Rinse’s residency,  Monstart is experiencing a new chapter with their homies of Piñata Radio by starting a musical journey, becoming their new monthly hosts. 

“For us dance and music are inseparable. We approach them in a personal, visceral and inclusive way. We don’t care about fitting in.”

Since 2019, the label has opened its publishing and sync branch, producing music for worldwide advertising campaigns such as Oppo, Moët & Chandon, Skyn, Honda, Oenobiol,etc.
