Monstart is proud to present the label's twentieth release, which will be available November 24, 2023. This "Stepping Out" EP is the result of the collaboration of two French artists: Ouanounou - the head of the label - and Gipsyan - a talented producer from Montpellier.

With "Stepping Out" this original duo pays tribute to their common musical preferences, which are in the mood of the UK & US underground scenes - hard drums, juke, footwork - and global bass. The result is a body of work that is technical, heavy, percussive, yet extremely harmonious. A musical journey into the club world, from 130 to 160 BPM.

"Stepping Out" is a 10-track album by Ouanounou and Gipsyan. They have combined their science and studio approach to create a work that is made for the dancefloor.

After participating in an artistic residency last January, the two artists began a deep process of reflection and creation aimed at defining their perspective of club music in 2023.

The project was based on the idea of liberation and artistic self-affirmation. On the occasion of this 20th release, "Stepping Out" will also be available in a limited edition on vinyl, marking the label's very first physical release.

Born in Montpellier and now based in Paris, GOTIS has quickly established herself as a key figure in the French electronic scene, moving with finesse between deep grooves and underground sounds.

Drawing on influences from the UK club scene, GOTIS delivers a resolutely dancefloor-orientated production on Red Therapy, the 21st Monstart release. Designed to be a club hit and a crowd pleaser, this project is a real injection of energy, fusing the warmth of house with hypnotic techno loops and the incisive rhythms of bass music. An immersive experience destined to resonate far beyond borders, each track is designed to capture the essence of clubbing.

“RED THERAPY is an EP I produced quite innocently in my old apartment in Montpellier. Initially, I had no intention of releasing it; it was more of a personal project, a sonic exploration without any pressure or constraints. The tracks on this EP blend analog and digital elements, creating a bridge between two sonic worlds.”

This EP represents a solo leap into electronic production for GOTIS, after years of making rock music in a band. While it marks a new chapter in her career, electronic music has always been a passion. This transitional project signifies an important shift in her musical journey, allowing her to delve deeper into a style that has always intrigued her.

“I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Monstart for believing in my project and allowing me to release this EP today. Their support has been crucial in bringing RED THERAPY to life.”

Beyond her role as an artist, GOTIS is an activist. She is committed to fighting for feminist and LGBTQIA+ rights. As co-founder of the Nuit Brune collective, she works to raise the profile of female and queer artists, while fostering a space for freedom and creativity on the local scene. Red Therapy is not just an EP, but a statement: to make people dance, move, and inspire.

With an EP that promises to leave an indelible mark on dancefloors, get ready to immerse yourself in the world of GOTIS sounds this winter.

To complete this project, Monstart is honored and thrilled to present two exceptional remixes on the Red Therapy EP, featuring contributions from the talented Pura Pura and Dylan Dylan.

Monstart was born 16 years ago, out of love and celebration. The fruit of the meeting of Ouanounou (DJ) and Chatte Chatoyante (dancer-performer). 

With its pack of artists coming from all over the world, the label has been exploring club music and culture. Not caring about adhering to one specific genre, they draw from all of their combined influences to create a hybrid project.

With one idea in mind : to be together while celebrating the richness of human singularities.

Since 2009, 80 events mixing music and performances, 21 releases on the label (EPs and compilations) and a 5 years residency on Rinse France have allowed them to express their own vision of club music. After 5 years of Rinse’s residency,  Monstart is experiencing a new chapter with their homies of Piñata Radio by starting a musical journey, becoming their new monthly hosts. 

“For us dance and music are inseparable. We approach them in a personal, visceral and inclusive way. We don’t care about fitting in.”

Since 2019, the label has opened its publishing and sync branch named 'AudioScore', producing music for worldwide advertising campaigns.
