Its apt for ASOY to call his new E.P ‘Anayen’, meaning ‘Rebirth’ in Greek... This is the Cypriot artist’s return to the scene after a handful of experimental releases since 2016 and a period away from production. His return is marked by a stunning new two-tracker with the debut release on the newly formed Jack Said What’s sub-label Jack Dubs, out on 4th Oct.

As an already seasoned producer and globetrotting DJ, ASOY returns with a flurry of fresh, new and innovative underground electronic music for 23/24. Pushing his great production philosophy of ‘less is more’ in reaction to what he calls the dominance of ‘CO2’ music, he puts forward the notion that a DJ does not have to fill their sets with those predictable intense build-ups, crescendos and drops but instead, as an alternative, can weave emotive, sophisticated and rolling beats together that build organically.
Here he delivers the first of his new music containing:
‘Off the Runway with Riki Inocente’ a pure driving, authentic, instrumental house cut, with a retro 90s feel, filled with sharp metallic synths and bursting with swing — heavily influenced by the classic timeless sounds and stabs from early Mood II Swing records. It was co-produced by London based artist Riki Inocente and is an ode to some of the B-side numbers you would unearth in those vinyl crates digging away that maybe went under the radar at first but were discovered over time, and became classics in their own right.
‘Chasershade’ is a fierce and effective dancefloor DJ tool — it’s deep, driving, dark house music, designed for that peak-time flow and full of chemical energy. Heavy bass and low-end prevail with the hypnotic acapella plucked from an excerpt by David Mancuso of NYC Loft parties fame.
This is the first of many releases slated for this artist who has already released on KMS Records, Eyetone, SecretMusic and Techfui and has had support from DJs including Laurent Garnier, Anthony Parasole and Massimiliano Pagliara.

Sharing with the audience what I think are the greatest records of the moment or what I think are timeless and personal classics is something that has motivated me through the years. I see my job as being a big filter: As a vinyl junkie, I am in the record stores chasing jams almost everyday. And I am also following movements in what I hear such as when techno was revolutionary or when the NY deep house sound really expanded, that’s what I would showcase. Now that a lot of techno and house roots are being revived and also reinvented, I can as always, enjoy playing a lot of new amazing records and some classics!

Twenty years in, from house to techno and everything in between, DJ Deep has immersed himself in the ebb and flows of music, be it NY, Chicago, Detroit or today’s current pulsating waves. He captures the magic of each as a leading figure of the Parisian scene and label owner, connecting the dots both forward and back with his own personal and multidimensional touch.

DJ Deep first got his break when he was invited by Laurent Garnier to DJ at parties such as Oz and Zoo at club Palace, or Boy, in his hometown Paris. Followed by regular appearances at the influential Rex Club, radio shows ‘A Deep Groove’ on then pirate station Radio FG, and later Radio Nova, plus a string of mix CDs on Distance and Respect is Burning, DJ Deep began touring worldwide, spreading his house and techno obsession to audiences craving his deep crates of musical truth.

In 2003, DJ Deep launched his labels Deeply Rooted (formerly Deeply Rooted House) and House Music Records, shining a spotlight on true-to-its roots house and techno records and harder to find gems from the likes of Kerri Chandler, L.B. Bad, Terence Fixmer, Mike Dehnert and Roman Poncet. The dream catalogue sealed his music curatorship with timeless records such as Kerri Chandler’s now classic “Back to the Raw”, Ben Klock’s remix of “Pong” by Kerri Chandler and Francois X’s “Code Red” remixed by Marcel Dettmann.

A reformat in 2015 and DJ Deep’s latest evolution in expression sees him join forces with Roman Poncet as Sergie Rezza, an open-minded experimentation with a standout album on Desire Records and performances including Berlin Atonal. Their straight-up techno live project, Adventice, saw a trio of releases on the reputable Tresor with performances at Weather Festival (Paris), Reperkusound Festival (Lyon) and many more to come. Fang is the duo’s house-leaning alias, which marked Deeply Rooted’s momentous 50th release in 2015. Unabatedly, DJ Deep’s solo adventure also continues with his own deep “cuts” out on his label or under his Rébeval raw house alias, on the cult NYC L.I.E.S Records.

It was in the late 90s where a young London born teenage Cypriot boy named Artemis immersed himself in club culture during its hedonistic period where there was an abundance of choices to experience the most forward thinking underground electronic music; and this is where the tireless musical quest of ASOY was inaugurated. Soaking up such a diverse mix of soundscapes early on left an indelible mark to want to pursue a lifetime dedication to delivering a sonic experience of his own. 

Beginning with an obsession to accumulate a record collection which gave him the initial tools to express his innovative voice. A voice which quickly possessed a distinctive spirit and energy that swept a generation of clubbers worldwide to his tune. After reaching a level of success and global recognition spanning from the early noughties with concert tours and acclaimed mix compilations (including a Radio One Essential Mix being part of the SOS triumvirate collective, in ASOY's words, "I always felt that my true voice was yet to be heard."

ASOY began to demonstrate shades of his diverse palette with the debut single 'Dances with Wolves' on the Eyetone label in 2016; representing an avant-garde approach to a sound that blurred the lines between early nuances and futuristic textures. This led to the release of a debut EP 'Between the Beats' in 2018 under the Secret Music label, headed by Berlin-based modular wizard, Halosaur. It was a bold and expanded sound that focused on a greater depth in dynamics, manifesting itself in a soundscape that effortlessly weaved a cohesive sonic tapestry, creating a narrative to musically resonate and elevate the subconscious psyche
An impressive compilation called Locus for the Techfui imprint came right after; a progressive selection of music that began to lay the foundations of the versatile ASOY blueprint and the ever evolving sounds that continue to follow. This included "Your Addiction", a collaborative effort with Dark Matrix. What followed was a period of enforced isolation that gave the rare affordance of time to explore with a deeper focus on mastering his craft in the studio. 

ASOY aims to make a dimensional leap between his roots and the future of music, threading the traits that have distinguished his persona as a performing DJ to compliment his personality as a producer.
