Diamond - Mortlock Remix

Mortlock’s latest single Marmara is a deep and hypnotic journey, combining recorded sounds taken from Turkish percussion and Oud and mixed with the churning organic sounds of The Sea of Marmara in Turkey.    

"The idea for Marmara was born after a trip to Istanbul many years ago. I was wondering how I could capture the mysterious feeling that the city projects in a techno track. Using samples I recorded there, and mixing it with some oriental beats and Oud, Marmara was born. Named after the Sea of Marmara, where Istanbul is situated."

Marmara's richly melodic elements and driving techno beats and rhythmic percussion will be sure to please fans of techno and experimental electronic music alike, wether it’s on the dance-floor or at home.

To this day Mortlock & Universal Project's 'Broken Silence' album still stands as a favourite LP for many. Previously unavailable in a digital format, Dispatch Recordings is proud to present a new twist on an all-time classic drum & bass album including new bonus material. Each track sounds superb, thanks to the glossy, modernised 2024 mastering work from Haden at Height Mastering.
 
In the early 2000s Mortlock was part of Vicious Circle and dropped one of their first demos through the door of Universal Project's flat. By surprise, this led to their first release on Renegade Hardware - a remix of the Universal Project track 'Jackhammer'. This connection would continue to be creative with Mortlock eventually moving into that same flat with Universal Project, where the legendary 'Rollers Convention' would form the first track from this album. Aiming to encapsulate the full range of styles that had inspired them during those furtive years, the album reflects their diverse influences with nods to everything from high melodics to tearout filth. All whilst still maintaining the essence of their sounds - which is to always keep it rolling.
 
A lesson in rollers in the original sense, this is a firm favourite release for Ant TC1 who has led the 2 year album curation process as a fan first and foremost - it embodies raw breakbeat-driven tech-funk with heavy percussive 2-step and unique soundscapes for that unique Siren Records sound. For this digital show I wanted to play a couple more newer Critical bits that I had bought but didn't get to play in my last digital show, and besides that I wanted to focus on more harder rollers with the new remasters of the Broken Silence LP from Mortlock (Vicious Circle) and Universal Project. The first half hour goes a bit more into a Critical direction but then the rest goes into a relentless flow - I was really enjoying the mix! Unfortunately there's a glitch around 65:30 as the stream dropped and I had to glue the mix from the recording, and one tune in between went missing except that you can hear it starting to get mixed into Squadron.

Next show will only be in two weeks time and will be a vinyl show again! It'll be on Tuesday November 26th, usual time, usual place, usual no-nonsense prescription of DnB! MORTLOCK is one of the musical projects of Australia-born, Germany-based musician and visual artist Michael Mortlock. Deeply influenced by the European electronic scene, he moved to Berlin in 2010, where he refined his craft, merging his love for electronic music with his skills in visual arts and videography.

Mortlock's evolving sound blends cinematic atmospheres, piano, and electronic soundscapes, drawing inspiration from film scores and multi-genre influences. He is currently working on several new EPs, two video game soundtracks and his debut album. 

His upcoming release (31.01.25) is a two track EP called Waterproof featuring some smooth deep house.
