Earlier last year Vito Roccoforte and Gabriel Andruzzi aka members of the era-defining NY post-punkers The Rapture emerged from their DFA/major label hangovers into a world of sonic wanderlust with their debut long-player ‘I Hear’ under their Mother Of Mars guise.

Emulating all that was good and great about the rhythm section of their previous incarnation but exploring corners all-new, on 'I Hear' they enlisted a third bandmate; Jaiko Suzuki, on vocals. The album ventured down different tributaries, journeying into psych, kosmische, avant-garde, fourth world and new age dreamscapes. The resulting album provided technicolour bleeps, drones, ethereal singing and a plethora of percussion interweave, like a fractal mosaic in harmonious sensorium.

Now on 'We Hear' the band mobilises rising producers, friends new and old, to remix the best tracks from the LP. First single, 'Through The’, is Natasha Bai’s magical touch, taking out into the morning light as the sun breaks over the horizon. Natasha’s sound is marked by her ambient-pop influences, transporting the listener through otherworldly universes.

First up Russia’s @natasha_bai takes 'Through The' out into the morning light as the sun breaks over the horizon. Natasha’s touch is marked by her ambient-pop influences, transporting the listener through otherworldly universes.

Next up is the amazing Mozambican producer and DJ Nandele (@nndle) with his new project Cntrl Alt Del (a collaboration between Nandele, Marco Dray and Roberto Chitsonso Jr.), going into full band wig-out mode on their take on 'Durga & Demon'. The project sees the three musicians and composers merge local traditional
Mozambican music - in particular, traditional music from Cabo Delgado - with techno and other electronic music genres. Nandele is a well-established figure in the Maputo music scene, being one of the most
innovative DJs and producers to come out of the southeast coast of Africa.

Then @borusiade’s interpretation of 'I Hear' - the LP's title track - disappears down electronic avenues of psychedelic wonderment, marked by their trademark sound, often dark and melodic, filled with piercing bass lines and immersive sonic vibrations.

Finally, Brooklyn-based Abby Echiverri (@echiverri) takes the tempo down a notch, evolving 'Matteruno's haunting vocals atop stuttered beats. A Drexciyan atmosphere seems to halt time for a short interim, releasing ethereal vocals, intertwined with distorted keys of analogue masterpiece.

Mother of Mars is the latest evolution of @vitodruzzi, two New Yorkers who first came to fame as the rhythmic backbone of '00s disco-punk pioneers The Rapture. We're very happy to be releasing their new record "Seed 2 Sky" - a pair of ten-minute stargazing kosmische epics that have been receiving support from Andrew Weatherall, Nick Höppner and Trevor Jackson.

It's finally out tomorrow, and what's more, we're following it up at the end of the month with a remix EP that features contributions from the likes of Justin Robertson, Ess O Ess and C.A.R.

Mother of Mars - Seed 2 Sky

Floating in languid orbit, Mother of Mars circles the red planet. Its crew dream of dark matter. Slumbering, their conscious skitters across the infinite possibilities of duplicating universes, ricocheting between the possible, the definite, the never was, the always will be. The whispering of their passage a fractal melody containing all of the scales under all of the suns. They returned to Earth with messages from the stars and instructed the waiting throngs in the sacraments of the new temple. The arcane designs were inscribed, the seeds were planted and the Gods were summoned. The planet tilted and shook and shivered and opened its arms to embrace the newcomers flooding in from Mars. The new age had dawned.

Mother of Mars is the latest evolution of Vito & Druzzi, two New Yorkers who have provided the 21st century with some of its most innovative dance music. The duo first came to fame as the rhythmic backbone of The Rapture, NYC pioneers who found global fame with their angular post-punk and howling disco. Since then Vito & Druzzi have had a prolific career as remixers and producers, producing leftfield disco killers for a range of labels including Warp and Throne of Blood. Their first release as Mother of Mars sees the duo fuse live krautrock drums with pulsating synth loops, creating two epics of space and rhythm that owe a debt to ‘70s kosmische pioneers like Tangerine Dream.

@justinrobertson-deadstock has decided on an entirely different tack, slowing the tempo down to an industrial stomp and using it as the base for a rolling techno arpeggio that swoops and ducks, always marching onwards, the soundtrack of a lost John Carpenter sci-fi shocker.

Only one week to wait until the Mother of Mars remix EP! Six brand new versions designed to pull the epic kosmische drift of 'Seed 2 Sky' into some strange shapes.

Today we're premiering a remix by @esso-ess - the recording project composed of Chris Stoker [Bad Passion] and the excellent Jamie Blanco who's released for the likes of Futureboogie. Their version of 'Seed 2 Sky' takes its inspiration from the warmth and throb of Kraftwerk’s motorway music and reimagines it set in the stars, creating a pulsating mix that’s best heard while travelling the vast arteries of an unknown life form.

The Mother of Mars remix EP is out today! Six brand new versions that pull the epic kosmische drift of 'Seed 2 Sky' into strange new shapes. Here's a remix from the mysterious Leaf, who teases the track out into a two part psychedelic epic. Opening with dreamy washes of sound and live drums that build to a euphoric crescendo, everything falls away to reveal a bassy electro jam, with rhythmic pulses like a robotic heartbeat.

PREMIERE: Mother of Mars - Seed 2 Sky (Leaf Remix)

Mother of Mars​ is the latest musical outlet of New Yorkers ​Vito Roccoforte & Gabriel Andruzzi.​ Having cut their teeth as the rhythm section of​ The Rapture​, who were at the forefront of the late nineties post-punk revival scene, they took to channeling their mutual love of disco, house and techno, the bandmates took to DJing together as ​Vito & Druzz​i. Having honed their skills and joint workflow, the Mother of Mars project sees them shift focus from club orientated productions towards Avant-Garde, New Age and Experimental influences.

2018 saw their first exploration as Mother of Mars releasing their ​Seed 2 Sky​ 12” on Ransom Note Records. These synth-laden tracks, both 10 minutes in length, were lovingly crafted from their shared Brooklyn-based studio and cast a midpoint between each’s wide reaching influences. This time around, they come armed with the angelic vocals of Japanese expat ​Jaiko Suzuki​ and a variety of percussion from across the globe.
Space Without A Shadow​ is the first outing from this new body of work and is in many ways considered by the pair to be the missing track from their ​Seed 2 Sky ​release. Although both refreshing and exciting, the track unfolds in an almost familiar way. The result is a beautifully-strange fusion of genre and culture alike. Over a beating kick and layers of driving percussion, repetitive synth riffs swirl in and out of focus clearing the way for Jaiko’s multi-tracked airy vocals, subtly playing off of one another in the foreground.

“Space Without a Shadow had its genesis shortly after the writing of the first Mother of Mars release, Hera in the Valley, which came out on Ransom Note Records the 19th of January 2018. This release also marks the wonderful and talented Jaiko Suzuki joining the Mother of Mars universe. Space Without a Shadow was always intended to be the next record after Hera in the Valley and now 2+ years later or a mere fraction of a second in cosmic time, which Mother of Mars prefers to work in, we give you Space Without a Shadow.
In the song—Vito, Jaiko and Gabriel all seemed to be moving through convergent musical and lyrical lines (or possibly cycles or spirals) that passed through a space of negating the popular modern idea of the individualized objectified self. Not an annihilation of self, but the dissolving of a particular and common conception of self. As part of this process we possibly make space for something else altogether or maybe we even get rid of a sense of delimited space all together. And perhaps this comes across to the listener, and they get to share in this experience.”

On remix duties is long time friend ​Willie Burns​ who weirds up the dancefloor, still being respectful to the original and Glasgow’s rising star Mr TC who progs the whole thing up utilising the bassline to reinvented effect.

The track was mixed by previous collaborator ​Ewan Pearson​ - who remixed and produced for The Rapture -​ ​and Mastered by ​Sarah Register​ who has worked with the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, Ariana Grande, Amon Tobin and Depeche Mode.
