Sitting down for the first time in front of a black piano makes you feel very small, intimidated, before taming the object, its mechanics, and being carried away by its power. Philippe Larvor and Nicolas Garnier share this childhood memory of what will soon become their favorite instrument. No classical music school, but a true gluttony for the black and white keys. Pianos, synthesizers, samplers, will always be present in the musical shocks that the two musicians lived, discovering over the years the albums of Jean-Michel Jarre and John Williams, then Depeche Mode, Sigur Ros, and more recently Jon Hopkins and Max Richter.

Shocks are often mentioned with Piano Noir. Those between two songwritings, acoustic and electronic. And those from movie pictures and atmospheric tv series that inspire the two acolytes.

In 2017, Piano Noir released a Radiohead cover, "Burn the witch", for the Piano Day, which led the duet to a first 5 tracks EP in November. Then, the musical universe was set, associating a catchy piano and electronic flights.

Several tracks followed, notably with "Escape" and its piano loops, and the mysterious "Paraza" (remixed by the Brest native François Joncour) which quickly joined the live setlist.

In December 2021 the duet released an electronic rework of an Ô Lake piano piece, "The Walk".
The next EP "Polarity" will be released by Night-Night Records and is scheduled for 10th June 2022.

S'asseoir pour la première fois devant un piano noir c'est d'abord se faire tout petit, intimidé, avant d'apprivoiser l'objet, sa mécanique, et se laisser emporter par sa puissance. C'est le souvenir d'enfance que partagent Philippe Larvor et Nicolas Garnier face à ce qui deviendra très vite leur instrument de prédilection. Pas de conservatoire, ni d'école de musique classique, mais une véritable gourmandise pour les touches noires et blanches. Les pianos, les synthétiseurs, les sampleurs, seront toujours présents dans la série de chocs musicaux que vivent les deux musiciens, découvrant au fil des années les albums de Jean-Michel Jarre et John Williams, puis Depeche Mode, Sigur Ros, et plus récemment Jon Hopkins et Max Richter.

Des chocs, il en est souvent question dans Piano Noir. Celui de deux écritures, acoustique et électronique. Ceux des images de cinéma et des séries atmosphériques qui inspirent les deux acolytes.

En 2017, Piano Noir prend ses marques avec une reprise d'un titre de Radiohead, "Burn the witch" à l'occasion du Piano Day. Une première expérience qui conduira rapidement le duo vers un premier EP de 5 titre. L’univers musical est ainsi posé, associant un piano accrocheur et des envolées électroniques.

Suivront plusieurs autres titres, avec notamment "Escape" et ses boucles de piano, et le mystérieux "Paraza" (remixé par le brestois François Joncour) qui rejoindront rapidement la setlist des concerts.
