One of the closing pieces from my developing opera "Fifty Yards To Freedom," which tells the story of Anna as she confronts her fear and trauma with the help of Figment, the embodiment of her instinct for self-preservation.

In this chorus, the malevolent Darkness (the Bass) tells Anna (the soprano) that she must seal her fate by stepping into one of three bright lights. The benevolent Moonbots (tenor chorus) try to help her, as the Darkness attempts to drain her of hope.

This three-part suite forms the climax of The Hidden Empire — a continuous journey from realization to resistance to renewal.
It begins in stillness, suspended in the final breath before collapse. What follows is not a traditional war of weapons and borders, but a conflict of perception, belief, and truth. And when the dust settles, something real is allowed to rise.
This trilogy represents the moment when the Seeker — and humanity itself — no longer reacts to the system, but outgrows it.

“The Unseen War” erupts with precision and force, driven by aggressive rhythms, layered guitars, and cinematic intensity. The chaos is focused, reflecting a battle fought through awareness rather than violence.
“Rebirth of the Real” emerges from the aftermath with soaring melodies, emotional release, and reflective space. The weight lifts. The sound opens. What remains is clarity, peace, and resolve.

Before the War, The Unseen War, and Rebirth of the Real

Johnny's Loaf & Stein was a restaurant in the mall in the town where I grew up. It always seemed to attract a cast of real characters. I imagine these songs playing as background music there. 
Having moved recently from the Great Plains to the Cascades and now to Lower Michigan, I try to release a track every few weeks of my own brand of instrumental music that mixes a hefty dose of 60's pop and rock with accents of blues, jazz and classical music.
I hope listeners will indulge me and take the attitude towards my music as listening to a crazed radio that will randomly change stations and never linger too long a single musical style.
I don't use samples or premade loops. I figure if it doesn't come from me it's not really my song.

I'm a composer with credits for film and concert music, and my music has won or been nominated for awards from Western Canadian Music Awards, the Independent Music Awards, the Geminis, and funders such as the Canada Council, Saskatchewan Arts Board, FACTOR and the SOCAN Foundation. 

In April, 2021 I received my PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Regina, where I wrote a thesis on algorithmic music and its impact upon the composer. during that time I created several apps, including a musical score for the university campus using augmented reality on an iPhone.
