私はその病院について、古いフォーラムの投稿で初めて読んだ。それは有名な都市伝説ではなく、観光客が囁くようなものでもなかった。それはもっと恐ろしいものだった。地元の人々さえ口にすることを拒む場所。歴史から抹消されたはずの建物が、それでもなお、そこに存在していた。

東京の奥深く、崩れかけた路地や錆びた空気の漂う通りを抜けて、私はそれを見つけた。病院の扉は固く閉ざされていたが、風が囁きを運んでいた——静かで切迫した声が夜に響いていた。背筋に冷たい戦慄が走った。それでも、私は中へ足を踏み入れた。

腐った消毒薬の匂いと、それよりもひどい何かの臭いが鼻を突いた。血か？腐敗か？
私は慎重に進み、スマホのライトを照らすと、剥がれ落ちた壁が不気味に浮かび上がった。ここにある影は……生きているようだった。伸び、脈打ち、まるで私を見つめているかのように。そして、私は彼女を見た。

廊下の突き当たりに、影のようにかすかな少女が立っていた。肋骨が浮き出ており、紙のように薄い皮膚が骨に貼り付いていた。彼女の目は光を飲み込む漆黒の穴だった。彼女は話さなかった。動くこともなかった。しかし、その視線が私の精神を引き裂くように突き刺さってきた。

逃げたかった。でも、足が動かなかった。

壁がまた囁いた。今度は私の声ではない、別の何かの声で。

「彼が来る。」

背後で金属がきしむ音が響いた。
振り向いた瞬間、息が止まった。
闇の中から現れたのは……人間？いや、それよりもはるかに恐ろしい何か。

指が操り人形のように不自然に痙攣し、顔には不気味な笑みが刻み込まれていた。錆びたメスが手の中で鈍く光った。

ついに少女が口を開いた。その声はかすれ、壊れたように震えていた。

「もう遅い。」

頭の中で爆発するような痛みとともに、世界がねじれた。

廊下が無限に伸び、終わりなくループし続ける。

空気はささやき声で満ち、すべてが私の名前を呼んでいた。
視界がぼやけ、闇が意識を侵食する。そして——私は目を覚ました。

しかし、そこは私の部屋ではなかった。
いや、そもそも私は自分の体の中にすらいなかった。

私はあの廊下の突き当たりに立っていた。
肋骨が突き出し、皮膚は紙のように骨に貼り付いている。

私の目——光を飲み込む虚無。

そして私の声も、囁き声の一部となった。

次にこの場所へ足を踏み入れる哀れな者へ向けて。

「彼が来る。」
