""Don't Be Denied" is a key song in Neil Young history. It's from the live stage album Time Fades Away taken from tours done to support Young's outstanding smash hit Harvest, and at the same time done during one of Young's darkest times, right after longtime collaborator Danny Whitten had died of an overdose of alcohol and Valium. Young was hitting the bottle pretty hard here and singing in a falsetto voice, the combination of which would cause him to develop a throat infection. Young, with his heart always on his sleeve, sang what he felt.
As stated in Neil Young: Long May You Run: The Illustrated History, "'Don't Be Denied' is an unguardedly autobiographical tune that traces Young's life from his parent's [1961] divorce to his current dichotomous status as poor in soul but rich in commercial success."
The time of Young's parents' divorce was turbulent, as the separation was anything but amicable. However at the time, 16-year-old Neil was raising chickens and selling the eggs, with plans to go to Ontario Agricultural College and be a farmer. Only his leisure activities foretold his future, when he would hide from his family problems in his room with his transistor radio playing local station CHUM. From this, Young learned admiration for Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and of course Elvis. In 1958, his father bought Neil his first music instrument, a plastic ukulele. His father would later recall, "He would close the door of his room... and we would hear plunk, pause while he moved his fingers to the next chord, plunk, pause while he moved again, plunk." Un inno elettrico e sincero sotto il cielo di Porto Torres

Nel giugno del 2017, al Falò di Porto Torres, i FACTORY (Mark I) si presentarono in formazione completa e al massimo dello splendore, pronti a regalare una versione personale e vibrante del classico di Neil Young, Cinnamon Girl. Quella che ne uscì fu una cover ruvida, viscerale, piena di tensione emotiva, ma anche di equilibrio musicale, dove ogni membro della band sembrava sapere esattamente quando osare e quando trattenersi.
Fabrizio Cherubini, timido alla voce ma capace di regalare un’interpretazione intensa e malinconica, ha rispettato lo spirito dell’originale senza mai imitarlo, lasciando trasparire una fragilità sincera, umana. A far vibrare il pezzo nel profondo è Davide Spanu alla chitarra, con un suono saturo, caldo, preciso, che costruisce l’ossatura elettrica del brano e ne esalta le dinamiche più ruvide.
Luca Monaco e Chris Pain alla batteria e al basso spingono forte, creando un groove compatto, nervoso ma solido, che tiene il brano costantemente in tensione e allo stesso tempo lo fa correre, come una cavalcata attraverso le polverose strade della West Coast.
Silvio Vinci, con il suo Hammond denso e vibrante, prova a colorare il tutto con venature psichedeliche e soul, ed il risultato finale è come se la "Cinnamon Girl" evocata da Neil Young prendesse vita nel cuore della Sardegna con un vestito nuovo, fatto di vento caldo e fiori elettrici.
Un’esecuzione che ha racchiuso tutta l’anima della Mark I: cruda, poetica, piena di cuore e amplificatori accesi. Uno dei momenti più memorabili del 2017 firmato FACTORY.

 “Cinnamon Girl” (Live @ Bistrot 2019) – FACTORY play Neil Young

Una versione infuocata e viscerale, quella dei Factory, che in un piovoso fine settimana dell’inverno sassarese del 2019, hanno incendiato il palco del Bar Bistrot con la loro Cinnamon Girl. Special Guest della serata, il virtuoso, Giorgio Sale che guida la carica con scudisciate di chitarra acida e rovente, taglienti come rasoi ma cariche di pathos, nel pieno spirito del rock americano più selvaggio e viscerale.
Dietro di lui, Silvio Vinci tesse un tappeto sonoro avvolgente con il suo Hammond, aggiungendo quel tono caldo, quasi gospel, che impreziosisce ogni cambio di dinamica. Il resto della band, tra cui Fabrizio Cherubini con la sua voce, compatta e affamata, macina rock’n’roll senza sosta, poi Chris Pain e Luca Monaco, sezione ritmica serrata, groove pulsante, e un tiro che non lascia scampo.
Una performance che riesce a omaggiare l’originale di Neil Young, pur filtrandola con lo spirito ruvido e garage dei Factory. Psichedelia, elettricità e sudore: Cinnamon Girl diventa qui un’ode alla libertà sonora.

Strangely out off beat in a way, but, any way. The Viking association comes from the fact that I think it sounds like the theme music from the TV series Vikings.
I have a friend who usually criticizes everything I do, but he liked this one — so it gets to come along.

Actually the very first song I ever played on guitar. About 45 years ago, a friend at the ”Kringlan” youth center taught it to me — even before I had actually heard the original.

I'm a singer/songwriter/pianist/guitarist/arranger/producer and recording artist from Swindon.  In local bands BLJ and Medium Rare, from Bracknell, Oozy and Breeze in my local Swindon town in the early days. I was in the XTC rising stars camp for a while. Andy wanted the voice to be used as an instrument which i suppose i didn't understand. At the time my piano playing was immature although I'd written some good songs. Being shy didn't help. Studied music and a self taught pianist mainly copying my dad who was a school teacher and brilliant piano player. Song writing is my main strength and that camenaturally from a very young age remembering my first composition 'Hello'. I must have been 8 or 9. You can buy my tracks hear or at at HearNow. Alex Summerlin is an eclectic alternative and folk-rock musician who has played music professionally for over a decade around the Little Rock, AR, and Nashville, TN areas. Originally hailing from Bryant, AR, Alex was drawn to music at a young age by the generations of working musicians in his family.  He started playing cover music in local bars and clubs as young as 12 years old, playing music steadily throughout his teens and twenties.

Alex started writing music in college as a passion project to break out of the limitations he felt playing cover songs. There, he met fellow long-time musicians and collaborators Rick Scott and Chad Terrell, and they joined Alex to write and produce songs from their home studio in Maumelle, AR (WaterWoods Studio). 

Since then, Alex, Chad, and Rick have continued writing and producing songs that reflect influences from several genres and three generations of music they wish to share with anyone who will listen.

I have enjoyed music for as long as I can remember and cannot remember a day of not either singing or listening to music. I am self-taught when it comes to playing guitar but what I most enjoy is singing which I have been doing since around age 18. Now retired singing and playing the guitar is now just a hobby and something I do to help pass the time. Have always  loved the sound of a Martin guitar.
