This is a lighthearted song about a heavy-hearted lived experience for all people in the struggle against the fascist takeover of the streets and neighborhoods of Chicago. The tune and form come from a classic drinking song about herring. A list is built by the leader calling and the audience responding. In "Be Brave, My Comrades", the list is a collection of pointers and tips for how to deal with ICE and stay brave and sane in the midst of a topsy-turvy reality. It's what we try to do: blend joy, practicality and passion in order to bring it to the people.

This is a medley we have been playing in protests at ICE's Broadview, IL abduction center and elsewhere in recent months. Once we realized that we had inadvertently been playing these three simple songs all in the key of A, and that they all contained the same four chords, it was a no-brainer to string them together. Very useful in protest situations where we want to both keep a groove going to sustain the energy of the crowd, and yet still be able to switch up the music just enough to keep it from going stale. Let's all get into the key of A for Abolition!
