Als Uta Kapp sieben Jahre alt war, verkauften ihre Eltern ihren Bauernhof bei Hamburg und zogen auf eine Farm in Namibia. Mit 21 Jahren, im Jahr 1984, kehrte Uta nach Deutschland zurück, nachdem sie Informatik in Kapstadt studiert hatte. Ihr Vater war besorgt über ihr Studium und stellte ihr die Frage: „Was wirst du tun, wenn alle Programme geschrieben sind?“

Bei Bosch war sie die einzige Frau in einem Einführungsseminar unter 70 Ingenieuren.

Utas beruflicher Werdegang war von vielen „Upgrades“ geprägt. Schon mit 10 Jahren fuhr sie Jeep, was sie früh lehrte, das Steuer ihres Lebens selbst in die Hand zu nehmen. Als Mutter von zwei Töchtern zog sie mit ihrem Mann nach Berlin, wo sie Teil eines Teams wurde, das in ihrer Jugend in der DDR den Traum eines Computerspiels hegte – und ihn schließlich realisierte. Dieses Spiel wurde später von Microsoft in 40 Ländern und in vier Sprachen auf den Markt gebracht.

Uta zählt zu den Pionierinnen agiler Methoden, mit denen sie Unternehmen im Softwarebereich hilft, die Brücke vom klassischen Management zur Agilität zu schlagen.

Heute unterstützt sie unter anderem Frauen auf ihrem Weg ins Digitalzeitalter. Sie sagt: „Ich habe gelernt, warum Frauen oft wenig Vertrauen in ihre eigenen Fähigkeiten haben und wie dieses Gefühl sowohl von Männern als auch von anderen Frauen verstärkt wird. Wir brauchen Frauen mit ihren positiven, femininen Qualitäten wie Empathie, Kooperation und Kommunikation als Balance für Yin und Yang – nicht als die besseren Männer.“

"This mix is a look into the two worlds I operate in as a producer and as a DJ. There are influences from 3-step and Afro house, and other electronic elements of course. As a producer I also wanted to include songs from my latest EP. It’s not the kind of set that’s meant to be played out at a festival, but this is a great way to look into my mind and how I DJ for myself."

Under the Hanging Tree by Perivi Katjavivi explores themes of historical trauma, identity, and cultural displacement, set against the backdrop of Namibia’s colonial past. A hard-boiled police officer from the city is transferred to a small desert village in Namibia, where she uncovers a series of grisly animal sacrifices perhaps linked to the disappearance of the villagers’ children. Music composition by João Orecchia and Mpumelelo Mcata, sound design by João Orecchia.

João Orecchia is an artist who makes things with sound.

These things take the form of music, installation, performance, pirate radio and events. João performs globally as a solo artist, as an improvisor in various configurations and with his band Motèl Mari. His discography spans more than a decade of albums, remixes and film scores. 

João has coordinated, curated and co-written a large scale public performance project called United African Utopias, which included over 40 performers guiding public through an abstract universe superimposed over Johannesburg, examining the role of imagination and perspective in the creation of day to day reality. Another ongoing project, Invisible Cities, is a series of curated events that engage artists, musicians and public in a collaborative, experimental spatial relationship with the city. Invisible Cities fleetingly inhabits transitional spaces, creating momentary realities and exposing hidden layers of possibility for what life in Johannesburg might be like with a bit of imagination. Born out of this is ICR / Invisible Cities [Pirate] Radio, which equally seeks to interrogate our relationship with the city by questioning established formats and practices of commercial radio.
