As you already know, I was over the moon when Xeoul (fka Alpharaoh), a brilliant producer who had the same artistic vision as me, invited me to collaborate on "Red Planet", one of the songs on his REQUIEM album (nwo.nctrnm.com). He also connected me with Danetronic, another incredible producer who was working on the album and had a lot of experience and creativity.

Together, we mixed my 2022 single, "ID", with the distinctive sound designs of Xeoul and Danetronic, which added a lot of flavor and depth. We created an enrapturing interlude that will make you want to listen to it over and over again.

A slow unraveling before the break. How curious.

"Really" is a leftfield electronic instrumental I made in the final days before a domestic violence incident that changed everything. It is the last song of the album and the relationship of seven adaptive years.

There are no lyrics here. Just ambient textures, downtempo pacing, and leftfield electronica tension. It doesn’t process pain. It precedes it, almost anticipating what’s to come.

Built on a foundation of lo-fi loops and intuitive mobile production, the track captures a moment of eerie calm. Created without conscious knowledge of the trauma ahead, it is still steeped in emotional weight.

It explores space, restraint, and discomfort using sound design to build a psychological atmosphere.

This is the sound of unspoken recognition. A shift. Once a symbol of safety, your buoy becomes the very weapon of your destruction. It evokes the sensation of holding your breath just a little too long.

"Really" opens the final chapter in the PXL arc, marking a pivotal turning point. It is not healing. It is the moment just before rupture.

Based in California's Inland Empire, Nctrnm (Matthew McGilvery) creates instrumental electronic music and new media art, exploring the intersections of sound, visuals, movement, and text. His practice is distinguished by a mobile-centric production methodology, leveraging accessible technology for creative innovation and crafting immersive experiences.
Nctrnm constructs detailed sonic environments weaving analog-inspired textures with minimalist grooves and integrated field recordings. 

Drawing influence from downtempo, electronica, shoegaze, and ambient techno, his work prioritizes atmosphere, intentionality, and emotional resonance. This distinct approach is informed by his background in Decision Science (CSU Fullerton), employing principles of design thinking and behavioral strategy to shape evocative soundscapes.
His evolving discography includes foundational releases EQUINOX (2018), TRACES (2019), and NOVA (2021). These works paved the way for the textured explorations of his EPs FLUX (2023) and GEMINI (2024). Nctrnm's forthcoming fourth album, PXL, scheduled for release in late summer 2025, promises a deeper dive into themes of transition, loss, and identity.
