Ich ergründe einen Klang in meinen Gedanken ^^ und breche ihn auf ^^ um seine alltäglichen und bekannten Elemente zu schichten ^^ und in serieller Weise sein Timbre aus alten und neuen Teilen nachzuformen.
Ich erforsche was wirklich einen Klang ausmacht und wie ich mit dessen langweiligen und meist überflüssigen Teilen etwas originelles schaffen kann das bekannte Sounds in einen hoffentlich neuen und inspirierenden Kontext setzt.

I explore a sound in my mind and break it down to layer its everyday and familiar elements and serially recreate its timbre from old and new parts.
I explore what really makes a sound and how I can take its boring and mostly superfluous parts and create something original that hopefully puts familiar sounds into a new and inspiring context.

the assignment was to come up with a sentence that describes our approach, my practice of creating a new track. took ages to find some words that really match in that context and accompany a true to it concept for this project. i usually wont work with vocals and/or spoken word so this was quite tricky and until mixing and mastering stage it took such a long time giving me real headache (again) but i like with what i came up reflecting what really reflects my work agenda. you should decide if in my track a certain vibe of "chain" or chained parts is to be heard or not, i personally thing i somehow missed that part of this compositional concept. anyway this might well be one of my best tracks this year so far.

produced  on Fostex TH7 headphones, mixed and checked on Fostex pm0.5D and a cheap 2.1 system, arranged in Bitwig Studio

eines Objekts vorzudringen. ”Vergrößerung” kann eine räumliche
Ausdehnung bedeuten, und in diesem erweiterten Raum lassen sich neue
Dinge entdecken. Es geht also um den Prozess der Vergrößerung, den
erweiterten Raum und das Erkennen neuer Elemente in den tiefen
Bereichen, die in Klänge umgesetzt werden.

“Hineinzoomen” begins with the idea of penetrating into the deepest layers of an object.
“Magnification” can signify a spatial expansion, and within this expanded space, new elements can be discovered.
The piece explores the process of magnification, the extension of space, and the recognition of new elements hidden in deeper layers—all of which are translated into sound.

Mein schemenhaftes Spiegelbild im Nebel. Aus der feinen Differenz zweier Gestalten, die ähnlich, aber niemals gleich sind, entsteht eine sinnliche Schönheit, die ich klanglich forme. In dieser Ungewissheit, was wirklich ist, suche ich im Anderen nach meinem wahren Ich.
Das Werk beschäftigt sich klanglich mit der verschwimmenden Grenze zwischen Realität und Irrealität – eine Begegnung mit dem fremden Selbst inmitten zarter Resonanzen und akustischer Auflösung. 

Dieses Werk wurde im Rahmen des „Call for Scores 2025“ von Ensemble-Blank ausgewählt und erlebte dort seine Uraufführung.

My hazy reflection in the fog. From the subtle difference between two figures that are similar yet never the same, a sensual beauty emerges—one that I shape through sound. In this uncertainty of what is real, I search for my true self in the Other.
This work sonically explores the blurred boundary between reality and irreality—a confrontation with the unfamiliar self amid delicate resonances and acoustic dissolution.

This work was selected through Ensemble Blank's 2025 Call for Scores and received its world premiere at the event.

Byeong-Jun Nam ist ein Komponist, der sich mit den feinen Unterschieden zwischen ähnlichen Klängen beschäftigt und die Spannung zwischen Hören und Wahrnehmung untersucht. Wiederholung und Veränderung, das Verschwinden und die Spur des Klangs sowie die Überlagerung von Bewegung und Zeit bilden zentrale Themen in seiner künstlerischen Arbeit.

Im Jahr 2023 wurde sein Werk für Violoncello solo beim Gaudeamus Festival (Niederlande) aufgeführt. Seitdem ist er sowohl auf internationalen als auch auf koreanischen Bühnen aktiv und arbeitet unter anderem mit dem IEMA-Ensemble (Frankfurt) und Ensemble Blank (Seoul) zusammen. 2025 wurde er beim Call for a Score von Ensemble Blank ausgewählt und präsentierte sein erstes Oktett. Im selben Jahr veröffentlichte er das Werk „Verschwinden“ für Streichquartett und Tänzer*in, das die Bedeutung von Musik-Performance als integralen Bestandteil seiner künstlerischen Praxis unterstreicht.

Er begann sein Kompositionsstudium beim Komponistin Bohyun Kim. Derzeit studiert er Komposition an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt (HfMDK) bei Ulrich Alexander Kreppein und ist Studierendenvertreter des IzM (Institut für zeitgenössische Musik).
