This song I wrote in 2009 and it's just an old time 1970-1980 power pop rock song, Charlie did a great job singing it and I think we rocked it pretty good! Think of The Cars! Sometimes you just have to say "Damn, look what she's doin' to me!" The video is new, I finished it last month, I think it enhances the song pretty well.

Just What I Needed ( Re-Mix )

...been a hot minute since Interbay's dropped a true rock track, hasn't it?  Well, have no fear--the distorted guitars and the shouted vocals are back--ready to confuse everyone who thought that Interbay only did electronic dance music.  (Though, to be fair...this track DOES have a bunch of synthesizers on it, AND you can dance to it...so, isn't it STILL electronic dance music, by definition?)

"Novelty" throws some post-punk vocals onto some classic rock power chords that have been chopped up and processed...and then sneaks in some synths to give it more of an early The Cars or possibly even The Stranglers vibe.  

And I do truly mean post-punk vocals, though I've kept them deep in the mix and threw a whole bunch of effects on them, you might pick up on where they were harvested from...(two of my favorite post-punk groups ever, if you must know.  Doesn't matter as they've been chopped up and rearranged so they're not what they were originally.)  

I reserve the right to revisit this track in the future to put a new vocal track (and probably new lyrics)...but, what's here works for what this is...at least for now.  

The other thing I reserve the right to revisit this track for, possibly, in the future, is the final mix.  This is my third attempt at getting this to sound close to what I was hearing in my head--and while it is certainly boistrous...like being at the back of a small punk rock club, you can almost smell the stale beer and urine smell with your ears.  (Which, now that I see this typed out--EWWWW. Disgusting!)  

BUT, my first mix was...on my headphones, far more intense...and I almost posted that mix until I looked at the master line-out meter...and the damn thing was pinned for THE ENTIRE SONG (even the relatively slower/softer parts.)  Not sure that would have worked very well for anyone checking out Interbay on their phones, for example.  So, I backed off a bit...you're welcome.

...but though I meant for the synths and some of the vocals to be deeper in the mix, a fourth pass with some automation could bring those elements out occasionally, when called for...  (In other words, when everything is loud...then nothing is loud.)    

My favorite part of the song, though, is how thoughtful it is--it let's you know when the song is over.  :)  

Interbay rock songs tend to struggle to get listens--so, do me a favor...give this one a spin, please?  I would certainly blast this out of my car speakers on a summer day--perhaps you would, too?  (Hope so!)

Hi everybody, my name is Jim and I’m a songwriter, I've written over 300 songs, I play guitar, bass, piano, and am a pretty good lyricist.  I play all types of music and have my own recording studio.  I use no A.I. or DAW or any computers to make my songs, all the instruments are played by me live on a multitrack studio recorder and Charlie, my vocalist, sings most of my songs and also plays the Harmonica on several tracks. I'm not a pro or a great musician but I do what I can with the tools that I have! I belong to the "Keep Humans In Music Movement" (KHMM)!
