"The Surfer" had its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in the Midnight section, where it received positive reviews for its style, placing you in the psychological headspace of Nicolas Cage's character as he revisits his childhood beach to surf with his son. Humiliated by locals, he becomes entangled in an escalating conflict that pushes him to his limits. Director Lorcan Finnegan was kind enough to spend some time speaking with us about his work and experience making the film, which you can listen to below. Leon heeft het heel kort over ‘Havoc’ met Tom Hardy. William heeft het over ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, die JP eerder al eens besprak. Bram bespreekt kort de serie ‘Andor’ en de Marvelfilm ‘Thunderbolts*’ en JP keek een horrorcomedy uit 2023 ‘Here For Blood’. We trokken de horrorklasieker ‘The Changeling’ uit de kast (van een huis). In de Special doen we wat we elke keer met de mannen van Moviegelul doen, we gaan weer eens een verhaal uit de duim zuigen en komen er zo achter dat we dat helemaal niet kunnen en uiteraard beantwoorden we ook weer vragen van luisteraars over o.a. Stephen King (films), de beste staaltjes overacting, overleden acteurs die uit de computer worden getrokken, Nicolas Cage en overschatte filmklassiekers. I enjoyed talking to Lotfy Nathan about his controversial new movie THE CARPENTER'S SON. Based loosely on the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, an apocryphal gospel not in the canonical Bible, THE CARPENTER'S SON speculates what might have taken place in between Jesus' birth, and his official ministry. 

My interest in the film was sparked when I came across the trailer in October. As a Cage completionist, I'm honor bound to watch any film with Nicolas Cage, but I also feel a special kind of way about the combination of Noah Jupe and FKA Twigs reuniting again for another film after their bond was sealed in HONEY BOY. 

Before the film has even come out, 223 beings have miraculously left reviews, most of them composed, to my shame, of fellow Christian who assume the worst whenever a movie about Jesus is made that's not by Angel Studios. As a professional, I felt it was fair for the director to talk about his reasons for making the film and to have an opportunity to speak about the choices he made. I have seen the film and hope to write a review shortly.
