Then Warden, the Rev'd Canon Reginald Stewart DeSaram, who had studied and served as an Anglican Clergyman in the UK thought the College Song by Warden Stone and Mr. deLivera sounded rather similar to the drinking songs in British pubs. Yet, since it was established as the Anthem of the College, it would not be changed. As some consolation, Warden DeSaram invited the Rev Canon Roy Henry Bowyer-Yin, the College Chaplain and Choirmaster at the time, to compose an unofficial anthem which could serve as an alternative to the College Song.
This composition of Rev Yin was either never written down but taught to his students and passed on, or the manuscripts were simply lost to time. Either way, at present there is no written melody or harmony, but only what has been passed down through the generations - leading to some disagreement on a melodic phrase.
This is my idealization of Rev Yin's music, using irregular harmony to enrich the soulful and deeply emotional nature of this piece, written for a small ensemble of strings, winds, brass, and a SATB choir.
