The long standing NTS resident steps up for the latest Off The Record mix.
London-based DJ and NTS regular Babyschön a.k.a Safi Bugel brings her deep, left-of-centre sensibilities to Phonica’s Off The Record series with a mix that bridges the afterglow of summer and the shadows of winter. Known for weaving post-punk, Italo, EBM and oddball house through her radio shows and club sets, Safi has built a reputation for finding warmth in the darker corners of the dancefloor. This mix, recorded at home on a quiet autumn afternoon but inspired by her set at DIY festival Three Wheel Drive back in August, channels that same energy — hazy, melodic and a little nostalgic while still maintaining a solid dance ready beat throughout. We had a quick chat with Safi about her mix and what she has coming up for the rest of the year:

Off The Record Mix Series 59: babyschön

This is my first solo mix titled "Peace". Vinyl-only. Mixer used: Euphonia, AlphaTheta. 

This is a lil introspective journey through some of my most personal and intimate records. Songs and artists that, in the natural chaos of life, would ground me. Soul nourishers. Anxiety relievers. 

The image of the cows in a field was taken by me in Armenia this October, where the infinite landscapes resonated with sound waves going through the most serene empty valleys. 

Raw Kernels is a series of vinyl-only mixes that express the complexities of human vulnerabilities. A space where I encourage myself and others to share little delicate, painful, hidden, perhaps even forgotten pieces of themselves, play records that we usually don't have the chance to, due to some social pressure or setting. It is genre defying, complex and cathartic. Raw Kernels focuses on expressing heartfelt connection with music through playful and intricate mixing. My own oasis. 

I hope to transmit a feeling of peace through this medium. I hope you feel it. From TwoFace's lil room with Love.
