Der findes dog andre måder at møde livet på. Måder, der er langt mindre energikrævende, og som kræver uendeligt meget mindre af os.

Noget af det, der kan føles allersværest i livet, er at stå ved det, vi dybt inde ved er sandt. At lytte til den stille stemme indefra – og have modet til at udtrykke den, også når sindet larmer med frygt for, hvordan det vil blive modtaget af andre. Når vi ignorerer den indre visdom og forsøger at tilpasse os andres forventninger, mister vi kontakten til vores sande jeg – og begynder at føles os som fremmede i vores eget liv.
I dag peger vi i retning af, hvordan det er muligt at stå roligt i vores eget lys – forankret i noget dybere end tanker og forestillinger – og være tro mod det, vi i stilhed ved er sandt for os. Uanset hvordan det mødes i den ydre verden.

In this final chapter of our second sister series, my sisters Kate, Teresa, and I reflect on the slow, complicated shift—the one that happened in our mother’s final years, and the one we had to make in ourselves to survive and heal.

We talk about what it was like to be adults with a mother still deep in the storm of untreated mental illness and addiction, and how we eventually found our way to firmer ground. We explore the boundaries we had to set, the pain of waiting for change, and the quiet hope that crept in when she finally began to seek help. She didn’t become someone new—but she did begin to come home to herself.

This episode is about recognizing the moments when something begins to shift—internally and externally. It’s about separating a person from their illness. About forgiving without an apology. And about choosing to heal, even when the past still echoes.

The doctors could never get my medication right

If I can't even get my own coffee right, why would I ever believe I could be satisfied with the medication they choose
or the body I'd fight live in

There's no use trying to read between the lines caught in my sinuses

You'll find nothing there but lies I tell myself

like "I'll be fine for another hit"

A dose over what I can usually take is just enough to rid me of my spineless "desire" of suicide

So now I can set that aside for a time later down the line when I'm no longer fearing for my life

There was too much water in my coffee this morning
So I guess I'll make another one later and stay up tonight
It's not like I enjoy sleeping anyway

But if I do end up sleeping
I'll end up getting to sleep too late 
To enjoy the next day
Cause I'll sleep in
And I'll wish I just poured out my coffee and made another

But my mother always taught me not to waste whats been paid for
And if I make another, I must be greedy
So I'll just suffer and hope tomorrow's  coffee is poured right
But it never is anymore because I forgot the milk ratio for my coffee
Why can I never seem to get it right anymore?

All I can do is focus on the bitter side of my mind
