Alicia Koutsoulieres, country specialist for Israel and the Occupied Territories of Palestine (OTP) talks about the war that just erupted in Gaza in October 2023. After Hamas attacked Israeli civilians, killing over one thousand and kidnapping many, Israel's retaliation as of this date (10/26/2023) amounts to more than 7,000 Palestinian civilians killed in Gaza, among those more than 3,000 children. We talk about this conflict through the lens of international law and also try to set it in historical context. War crimes have been committed on both sides because of the targeting of civilians. We urge people to become familiar with terminology based in international law, for example, the Geneva Convention, Law of Armed Conflict (Humanitarian Law), and Crimes Against Humanity of Apartheid.
