Rémi Laffont est un VTTiste au palmarès impressionnant puisque il a remporté deux coupes du monde, mais depuis l’ouverture du Café Vélo Octave en juin 2023, il consacre toute son énergie à un nouveau challenge :  gérer une entreprise. Il a créé, au pied du Tourmalet, un lieu de vie ouvert autour du vélo, avec un magasin, un atelier de réparation, un café, un restaurant, de la location de vélos, des stages cyclistes,… Ce café vélo s’appelle "Chez Octave", en hommage à Octave Lapize, premier coureur à avoir franchi le col du Tourmalet, lors du Tour de France de 1910. Tous ces services sont rassemblés dans un superbe lieu, sur 800 m2 de superficie, à la sortie de la cité thermale de Bagnères-de-Bigorre, sur la route du col du Tourmalet.Autour de Rémi il y a une équipe solide et compétente avec un ambassadeur que l’on a vu rouler très fort sur la route du Tour de France Bruno Armirail, qui est aussi un de ses amis d’enfance. Rémi a su convaincre en 2022 la communauté de communes dans le cadre de sa mission de développement économique du territoire qui a soutenu le projet. Depuis 2015, notre média Bike Café, présente des initiatives de Cafés Vélo qui privilégient l’accueil et la convivialité avec une relation client plus profonde que celle des boutiques de vélos traditionnelles ou celle des grands linéaires impersonnels. C’est la première fois que l'on rencontre un projet aussi ambitieux par la superficie de son implantation et par le soutien apporté localement par les institutionnels et les investisseurs.
