Stand with Venezuela against the USA's criminal regime change attempt

For this week’s episode, host Daniel Raimi sits down with David Konisky, a professor at Indiana University Bloomington, to reflect on the release of Konisky’s new book, “Power Lines: The Human Costs of American Energy in Transition,” which Konisky wrote with Sanya Carley. Unlike previous calls for innovation-forward research on the energy transition, Konisky proposes a people-centered approach that includes examining the uneven benefits and costs that get distributed among communities that host or otherwise are affected by clean energy development. Konisky underscores that a close-up look into communities at the front lines of the energy transition can provide a heightened awareness of the local impacts of energy infrastructure and potentially facilitate sound and equitable decisions in federal energy policymaking.

US imperialism has been trying to secure control of Venezuela ever since President Hugo Chávez began to redirect the country’s oil profits away from western pockets.

The USA is no doubt hoping that preventing Venezuela from selling any oil at all (other than what the USA itself buys!), will force the Venezuelan government and people to surrender. It is unlikely to do so, but in the meantime Trump’s provocations are making war only too likely – a war that could inflame not only Latin America but even segue into world war involving Russia and China and their allies, with European countries dragged in to support their wayward American ally.

Rights to exploit Bolivia’s lithium will likely be offered to western investors, instead of the Russian and Chinese companies that were given preferential access by MAS.

Former president Evo Morales and his followers remain the great imponderable of Bolivian politics – the 65-year-old veteran politician still has the power to mobilise masses of the populace. But for the moment, the long-suffering workers of Bolivia will have to look for a more solid strategy to assert the rights and agency that they seemed so close to securing, but which once more have eluded them.
