Welcome Don, We've been trying to connect for this interview all week and you and Farm Bureau, have been very busy, we wanted to share about Farm Bureau's Home-Office Open-House that took place Tuesday Aug. 8th 



But first as we start off this conversation can you share with the Michigan business community about Farm Bureau?



Wonderful, and you were able to celebrate the renovations to your headquarters, can you tell us about that process and what the building is like now, and what it will allow your company to accomplish going forward?



What does that say about the company, by committing to keep the headquarters in the Lansing area?



I believe in your remarks that day you spoke to company values,  and the commitment to your customers, employees, and agents. Can you speak to that?



You listed several in your remarks that day, Are there some groups you care to recognize at this point, in light of the rennovations?

Welcome Remarks

· Good afternoon and thank you, Carl.

· Thank you all for coming today. It’s with a great deal of pride that I welcome you all to our open house celebrating the renovation of our headquarters.

· Horrocks Joke: We opened this location at 7373 West Saginaw Hwy. in the mid-70s and for years we were known as “the building next to Horrock’s”. Maybe now Horrock’s will be known as the building next to Farm Bureau. (Ha Ha)

· As many of you know, a little insurance company was born in 1949,

o By farmers who wanted an insurance company who worked as hard as they did.

o We’re honored to be on these steps 74 years later.

o Our employees/agents are honored to serve and have this great space to operate

· It’s a beautiful building. With open spaces…designed to provide comfort and promote collaboration. And we’re proud of and appreciate all the thought and effort went into its design.

· But this building is not only brick and mortar. It means so much more.

o It’s a Town Hall.

o It a Community Center.

o It is symbolic of what Farm Bureau has done for more than 7 decades…

o We’re about building relationships

o Taking care of people’s lives, protecting futures, and putting businesses and homes and farms back together – sometimes one brick at a time.

o It’s what we’ve done and what we will keep on doing.

o Times change. Heck, even buildings change. And, yes, we’ll continue to innovate and grow.

o But our values don’t change. They are the same as they’ve always been. We’re committed to our customers, employees, and agents.

o From the very beginning, it’s been about relationships. It is today. And it always will be.

· So, today we take a few moments to celebrate our history and our future.

o We thank those who paved the path for this renovation

o Our designers, local contractors, trades, and partners, including:

Hot Summer Night 2023 - Dj Set Live ScreamDj

The waterpark was open for business as the crowds poured in to celebrate the summertime. It was sunny out and the deep blue pools rippled in the glow of the morning sunshine as the people gathered and assembled in their swarms.

Above water there was a myriad of colours - wicked shiny plastic everywhere as if illuminating the land with some kind of fluorescent force. Slides and features, walls and wheels, signs and speakers. It was an assault on the senses as colour deafened all else.

The sound of splashing from the pools was loud as the tinny sound of music blared from loudspeakers all over the waterpark.

EZ Dee channels the early, nostalgic sound of classic House and Electro on a new EP which sounds as though it could of ripped through speakers in the early 90's. Hard hitting original sounds from Miami Beach for the true school heads in the club.

We speak about the ways the gallery’s programming and operations changed over time in response to shifts in funding, space and the needs of the community, and we discuss their personal entry points into their work at the gallery.

Demi London
Traversing through the fields of art, culture, education, and parenting, Demi March London has become attached to experimental emergent spaces and the dialogical aesthetics of administration. Figuring out what ideas look like, and how to talk about them, is an integral part of progressing critical discourse; Demi finds encouragement and hope by advocating for different ways of knowing and being. 

Galleries and museums have a tendency to be ceremonial spaces for the performance of authority, and Demi has always admired artist-run centres for challenging this and interrogating notions of power and place. As Executive Director at Gachet, Demi aims to foster a reflective and inclusive culture of ideas, discourse, critique, and community – a safe space for creative experimentation and articulating vulnerability.

Moroti George
Olumoroti (MorotiI) Soji-George (he/they) is a curator, writer and educator based in Vancouver, BC. He is the curator at the Black Arts Centre in Surrey, BC and the artistic director of Gallery Gachet in downtown Vancouver. Olumoroti's curatorial practice primarily involves unravelling and demystifying the ways Blackness is embodied and codified in our shared milieu and conceptualizing the works of Black Contemporary artists and their contributions to the Black cultural lexicon and our understanding of the state of  Blackness.  His research and curatorial practice also involve envisioning accessible and community-centred art spaces and highlighting the stories of individuals and communities who construct new ways of being that challenge the Western status quo. At the core of his practice is the belief that space could be used to reflect the agency and lived experiences of individuals whose bodies and identities are not typically valued, respected and represented in traditional art and academic settings.
