Telephone Ringing Once Only

A protest song against the absurdly outdated rules for digital music content. 

OK folks, here is the story. For anyone to do a remix or a cover, current outdated laws say you should apply for permission, not just from the artist/creator but also from the publisher. 

In the digital age, my contention is that very few amateur punters, groups, live acts, DJ's, producers actually do that unless they are confident of high volumes of sales or stream royalties. 

For may others, they just take a punt and hope that no one notices. 

However, with the technology we have now (and I think this is where the UK is headed), how hard would it be for me to produce a cover using AI or whatever and nominate the artist and publisher in the streaming platforms to receive any royalties that may come from my efforts (possibly with a small gratuity for me as the producer of the new version). 

Artists are concerned about losing control of their work. The reality is that they have already lost control. This proposal would actually provide a practical process unlike the unworkable system that is in place now. 

To all DJs, AI music producers and even artists out there who believe that we should continue to embrace the digital age and make sure that artists receive their just reimbursement, please like and repost. 

Changes to the current analog laws will happen! We just need to accelerate the process.

Hi all, so from 2016 to 2024 I assembled and produced a large collection of covers of many of my favorite tunes as my own hobby (and many during COVID lock-downs!) and I have accumulated over 2,800,000 plays across the world which is awesome!

I am much more of a producer that a musician. These first 8 years of my music was mostly based on midi cover tracks often downloaded from the Internet but heavily reproduced and re-imagined variously on my two Yamaha keyboards (Clavinova and PSR 975), but also using PC midi editing & DAW software.

Towards the end of that period, I added some of my more original electronic music which I produced over the past two decades under the name of Funkleberry in order to consolidate my Soundcloud accounts. 

But in 2024 I got into AI music generation and I am now  a freelance sonwriter and AI music producer. It's been a fun journey!
