Weeks slipped quietly by,
I rehearsed my lines at night,
finally asked you out on Friday,
but you just...
Shook your head.

I was pressed into silence,
crushed where I stood,
flattened under the weight—
pancaked for good.

At last you said yes,
though your smile was paper-thin,
we wandered through the evening,
but you couldn’t wait to end.

Said it was a horrible night,
like the spark had never ignited,
I was smashed, squashed, compressed—
and totally pancaked

Why do I run toward the weight,
when I know it’ll break me down?
Why do I keep my hands out,
just to get knocked around?

Every step feels heavier,
but I keep moving still,
pressed and pressed again
by some invisible will.

I know I’ll end up flattened,
spread out on the ground,
but something inside whispers,
“don’t stop now.”

One year circled back around,
I booked the table, lit the town,
we’d eat, then fall through clouds,
anything to keep you proud.

But the night unraveled fast,
your silence colder than the glass,
I was decimated, leveled, destroyed—
pancaked at last.

Smash, squashed, compressed,
flung against the mess,
leveled, buried, annihilated,
overpowered, decimated—
Pancaked, pancaked!

When the noise is gone,
I’m just lying here still,
spread-eagled in the silence,
knowing I always will.

Sad and tragic,
flattened thin and small,
pancaked again—
and I’ll wait for the fall.

Hands keep turning,
each second pressing in.
I feel myself folded,
compressed by the hours,
pancaked by the weight of days.

Tick by tick,
I’m leveled, smoothed, 
spread thin,
until the cycle starts again...

SINCERE IMPOSTER is curated by two musicians, both living within the same body, sharing a singular existence. They identify as Danielle & Dave. They are both psychologically and musically confused, yet extremely and unapologetically sincere.

Influences range from Weird Al and Nathan Fielder to David Lynch, Rosalia, Monatik, Atarashii Gakko!, Rammstein, T-Pain, and T-Swift.
