Reconnected #05

My first mix of 2025 will be the final Vinyl Destination mix in it’s current format. After this I will be looking to try and upload shorter mixes (Short Haul), 60-80 minutes in length, but more frequently. There will still be the occasional longer mix (Long Haul). All will be revealed in due course but don’t worry, it’ll still be vinyl only 😊

For this mix I’ve selected 20 tracks from my collection that I’ve neglected to include on previous mixes and I think deserved a place. Some I’ve had for years but just never found a place for them, others are recent additions that I’ve chucked straight in. As always it's vinyl only, few bits of snap, crackle and pop in places and the odd loose transition but overall very happy with it and I think it's a great way to close out this series of mixes.

Local Underground RDG is pleased to share this mix from techno-philosopher Hypatia. Recorded live from Savage Sirens Productions Easton House Party in March of 2024, the set features 12 blistering tracks from Hypatia's deep crate. Pembroke provides the bones, offering six combined tracks from Karia Records and the Pembroke imprint, while the mix is fleshed out with classic tracks from Hypatia's progressive roots.

Precisely mixing deep grooves and dark percussion, Hypatia invites you inside for an intimate look at the sacred spaces that inspire her signature sound.  As to be expected from Hypatia, the resulting mix offers a seamless blend of progressive dance music in historical perspective.

The true spirit of the original global underground series was to paint a retrospective picture of a destination’s dance music culture. In this sense, Hypatia captures the essence of Easton’s small but thriving party scene. There is hardly a more welcoming small town in Pennsylvania for a DJ to grace than Easton. With a such diverse crowd, the eagerness to dance is their common bond. Hypatia uses this vibrant pallet to paint a portrait of Easton’s dancefloor culture with a recreation of her legendary closing set for the Easton House Party from March, 23 2024.

This was ground zero for the debut of her groundbreaking harmonic progressive house EP, “Pembroke - Wishing Star” which was released May 17, 2024. The theme for the rave was centered around 90s house music. Hypatia’s masterful selection included some of the titanic tracks that closed out the nineties, just as she closed the party. With the fringes and tassels of progressive house’s halcyon days, she wove in her new vision for the future of prog and the rise of Pembroke.

Who is Space Jesus?

Originally, the name came into like back in 2023 on September 14th, at an event called "fuinneamh." 
(If you're unaware of fuinneamh, I highly recommend checking them out)
But people just kept calling me space jesus at fuinneamh, and it just stuck. 
However, besides the name.

Space jesus is a man who is only trying to follow in his father's footsteps. He's shown me what music, passion, and love it takes to be a DJ. To present the feeling, To let everyone feel what it truly means to feel alive with music. He's caught me onto it too hard to a point where it's all I am, I suppose.

The music was the biggest part.
Any lables ranging from Platipus Records, Hooj choons, and bonzai records. Coded mainly for the Voyager mixes. Yoshitoshi recordings and even saw recordings and bedrock. Even very underground music that's just NEVER out there is just what I strive for in Djing.

These lables with all the tunes within them and many more are what made Space jesus. the point him is to save the sound in music, to bring back underground that is barely heard to the common club or festival goer. (to my knowledge)

Create the love you want to present.
Take risks.
And most importantly..

Keep the love flowing.

A brief insight: Vinyl DJ and resident for Timewarp in Bournemouth. My story is as follows:

Having been exposed to electronic music from the age I had ears, I suppose it was inevitable that I've taken the musical path that I have. Growing up listening to artists such as Human League, Visage, Duran Duran, OMD, Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield, Vangelis etc when the Trance boom came around in the 1990s I was sold. Whilst my school friends listened to Brit Pop. Indie or Hip Hop, I immersed myself in hundreds of dance compilations from the likes of Ministry of Sound & Nukleuz. Still far to young to venture out clubbing I played every compilation to death.

Once I'd turned 18 I found myself at The Opera House in Bournemouth every Friday for Slinky. The music policy was pretty simple but very spectacular: THE finest Trance and Hard House DJs on the planet! Every DJ you'd ever care to mention that was making a noise within those genres during the early noughties played at Slinky. It was Mauro Picotto though who caught my attention the most. Famed perhaps for his Trance anthems such as Lizard, Iguana & Pulsar, it was his ability to crossover into the Techno field that interested me. His Nukleuz compilation "The Lizard Man" is a prime example of this and that led me to his compilation released a year later titled Metamorphose.

Fast forward 5 years and 2 trips to Ibiza in the summer of 2007 convinced me that the Trance scene had gone stale and it was time to focus on the other constant in my musical life: Techno. Picotto's Metamorphose compilation was littered with tracks linked to Picotto (productions, remixes or signed to the BXR imprint) but the standout tracks were Electric Deluxe - Electric Deluxe, Devilfish - Manalive & Chris Liebing - CLR 07.

After 10+ years dabbling with Techno, I found myself back at the beginning. In April 2019 and before everybody started digging their 1210s out the loft during COVID, I decided to go back to basis and re-ignite my love for all things Trance and vinyl and launch a mix project titled Vinyl Destination. I've been doing that for 5 years and now decided to bring all those mixes into one place here on Soundcloud.

Most recently I’ve become a resident for the rapidly growing vinyl only night Timewarp based in Bournemouth. Prior to that I played at a few local nights here and there and held a residency for 2 years on an online Trance radio station called Trancemixers that then morphed into a website called Electronic Mixes. By all means I'd love to play out at a variety of parties so if upon listening to anything I post you think I can provide a soundtrack to a party then please get in touch :-) I'll just need a set of 1210s to play on!
